Tell me about it. BUT that dealer is weezleing out of declaring our QX totalled (When the car sways side to side as oppose to up and down, has been in the shop 4 times, and has a total of 31,000 dollars spent on trying to fix it). They are not all that smart because we would buy a new QX every year or two and so they lost our business (Which in my opinion is pretty good business figuring we only buy infinitis and bought say 5 from them already). There loss.

If you're buying a new car every two years and trading in your old one, they have already made plenty of money off of you.

They could have made more. That dealer is um, sucks.. They said I couldn't test drive a car until I prooved I was serious! It was a joke. But the car was a rev up, ip/stone, 6MT. A VERY rare find. I had to get it.

It probably is rare, but I doubt they knew it. Mine was almost $10K less than that at the beginning of '09 and I still think I overpaid compared to some of the prices I've seen guys on here got them for. It had 38K miles, is CPO and has an Elite extended warranty. Oh well, like you said, live and learn. Also, never trade-in unless there are no other options.

That's how dealers make their money.

They are right though...or at least I agree with them. If i were looking at a used car (even private party) and found out the motor or trans has been replaced...the value of the vehicle has just declined in my eyes. Reason being the car isn't as it left the factory and has been disassembled and assembled again by a person of unknown skill level.

Your best bet is to sell privately, and hope whoever comes isn't up to speed on the rev-up issues and doesn't pull a service history.....in other words, a young kid who thinks the car is hot and wants it

Wow, I got my loaded 6MT with only 31k miles on it in mid '09 for under $18k. My wife's '06 5AT was purchased end of '08 with 19k miles on it for $20k.
I helped a friend get an '07 6MT Premium (no nav) with 22k miles on it for $21k (almost wished I had waited a few weeks since this was after I got my 6MT)

You got boned hard.

Being 19 is no excuse for not knowing values and reading up on how to purchase a car.

I agree. Dealers are in the business to make money. I feel like I bought a great, off lease car with all the service reccords. I "thought" I had a great dealership too, but that didn't happen. I know I paid too much but I know I got a great condition product, knock on wood.

I traded in my E36 M3 and my 2005 Jeep Liberty. The M3 was in GREAT condition with BRAND NEW brakes, suspension, cams, pistons, rods, mounts, joints, EVERYTHING. The only thing I did not replace was the transmission (It was traded in before actually racing it). The Liberty was loaded with leather and navigation. Well they ONLY gave me $12,000 for both. I came back the next day to pay off the balance of the car and I saw the M3 sitting pretty for $12,600. I laughed to myself then almost cried. That M3 was one of the best cars I have EVER drove. It blew the doors of the G35.
id never sell an E36 M3...

omg in heaven!! I bought a Premium C 05x in feb 09 for 14,500 with 34k and thought I screwed myself over because of a couple flaws from it being in an accident that I didnt notice before buying it.. This makes me feel a little better..

Sorry that you got taken.. What i really dont get is, htf did you pay 27000 after 12000 worth of tradins?? Or was it 27 before that?? I mean, why not buy a new one with 12000 down?

Soooo the moral of the story?

NEVER FOCKING TRADE IN A CAR UNLESS IT'S AN EMERGENCY. Seer. I mean.. if the car is having hella problems and you just wanna rid yourself of it.. then trade it in. because it's worth not having the hassle. but seriously. I've had dealerships offer me anywhere from 4-6k for my car.. when I could private party sell it for 8. We're talking on a much larger scales.. but that's literally 50%-100% more money for you! You will never in a million years get as much for your car in trade in as you will selling it privately
