Dealer Negotiation Question

For those of you who purchsed your car by making an offer of $200 over invoice how did you know what the invoice price was?

How did you know the dealer actually quoted you the invoice price?

Re: Dealer Negotiation Question

That is what I thought.
But I was told that those prices are also inflated.
True? False?

Re: Dealer Negotiation Question

I agree Edmunds and KBB should give you a good ballpark figure. You could also just ask for the actual invoice once you agree on $ addition.

Re: Dealer Negotiation Question

Has anyone bought one with the VPP discount? I can get that through work, but its less than 2%, although that is 2% below dealer invoice. I'm sure it will save a few bucks though. I'm not a good "wheeler dealer" type, so it saves the headache of all the haggling.

Re: Dealer Negotiation Question

also... you can try shopping under an assumed name and disposable email addy. make it plain to them that you will only deal via email (not phone) and get their best Fleet/Internet price.

When you shop via internet, they will say they need to speak to you to find out what options you want... even though you may already have provided them with the info. Don't do it by phone, do it by email so you have it in writing. Work with multiple dealers, but make sure they are not part of the same organization (ie... riverside infiniti and Cerritos infiniti are the same company)

Cheers, Ted

Re: Dealer Negotiation Question

True because if they are not I bought my Honda Odyssey minvan for $400 under the invoice price that I found on edmunds. I don't think the dealer made much money on me but I am sure they didn't lose money on it.
