So Ive been thinking about buying a G35 for the last few weeks, obviously.

Here is my situation:
I'm 22 years old
I live in the Inland NW (Spokane, WA to be exact). So we do have winters. This last year we had maybe a total of 6" of snow. The 2 years before that, wow. 18" over night? Who knows what next year has in store.
But anyway, I have a pretty good job (Atleast for Spokane that is).
I currently own a 1990 Nissan 300ZX N/A 5 speed. Fun car
I also own a 2006 Nissan Altima 2.5S Special Edition. My Daily Driver, which I am making payments on...

But Ive been thinking about going down to a single car. Something that is sporty and luxury. Absolutely love the body style of the G35. Fell in love with the first one I ever noticed.

So I was debating on selling my 300ZX and trading in my Altima for a 2005/2006, possibly newer, G35. More than likely a Sedan, a little more practical than the Coupe, which I would only buy if I had a little extra money for a nice DD/Winter vehicle anyway.

But currently this is only a thought. My other Idea is keeping the Altima and buying a 300ZX TT next spring.

What are your thoughts? Sell me on why I should get a G35 and get rid of my Nissans.

Too bad your Z isn't a couple years older, I've been looking for a Z31.
I like the looks of the Z32 better, but I don't want to have to work in that cramped engine bay.

 

I made the jump from a Z31 to the G just this past summer. The Z is still my baby and is stored for now waiting for my *** to graduate and give her some TLC. Amazing car.

I'll stop the thread-jack now, but I just can't help it when someone mentions a Z31.

 

Go drive one... you'll be sold. The 6 speed is much harder to find though... so search hard for it

I used to have a Z31 as well. 87 N/A Auto. 186k miles when I sold it. It still wasn't fun to work on though. But is less cramped than the Z32...

 

I like Altimas, i really do. For a while, i debated getting a 3.5 SE-R. Seemed like a fun sporty looking car, with some pep. The main reason I didn't get one? It's FWD.

The G35 is kinda in the same size class as the altima, but it's RWD (or AWD...which is still RWD-biased). Go drive one and you'll see the feel is just completely different. Even the AWD model is fun to drive because it has a lot of torque and most of it is sent to the rear wheels. It's just much more fun to drive than FWD.

If you don't mind RWD in the winter, the 6spds will be a little harder to find, but if it's like New England, they will be priced cheaper than the AWD models. Here where I live, 90% of the cars on the lots are AWD, and occasionally you'll see a RWD model that just doesn't sell because everyone where i lives wants the AWD. If my G wasn't my primary driver, i would have jumped all over a sweet deal on a black on black '07 6-spd sedan loaded. In the dead of winter, RWD G's don't sell at all where I live.

 

^I test drove an Altima SE-R too. They are quick, but the RWD G is sooooo much better by comparison.

 

An SE-R Altima crossed my mind as well. But the G looks much sexier, RWD > FWD as well.

 

I've got an 08 altima 3.5se 6MT and an 05 G35x. I prefer the X since i get a decent amount of snow here in the winter. the altima is fine in the snow on all seasons, but the g is so much better in the snow even with just all seasons. i drive the altima when i want to drive a stick. otherwise i DD the G.

 

If you drive the G you will buy the G. As for the sedan or coupe debate I had the same until I found a full NISMO sedan (mint) and I have not looked back since. I couldn't be happier with my ride and in the process of getting it the TLC it deserves with the help of the peeps on this forum. Listen to (most) what they have to say...

 

Well only you can decided on whether or not you want a coupe or a sedan. Since you are 22 I am 23 I don't plan on having kids anytime soon and I don't want to drive my friends around all the time so I got a coupe. I personally was going either z or g coupe the extra two seats are a nice thought. As for snow I live in san diego and I hear this snow stuff is ice falling out of the sky can't help you much with that. Look at a 5series or 3series bmw with a similar pricetag 3series comes in coupe. I will prolly still get a g though.
