How hard would it be to put an 08 VQ40 in a 04 sedan x. Also what would i need to do it?

 

If you figure this out please let me know I was pondering swapping that motor into my car but couldn't figure out where to begin

 

why would you want to do that? that motor is designed for more low end tq, but the difference isnt worth the work imo.

 

i have a vq35 and vq 40 in the garage

 

i'd prefer to put in a VQ37HR...

Updates if you make this work. A friend of mine is wanting to swap either a VQ35 or VQ40 into his Z31.

Some of the GM engines are like that. For instance the 5.3 in the trucks has more power and better response with LS1 heads/intake/cams.

 

Ford is the same way. Some of the engines used in the trucks have different heads/intake manifolds vs the pass car applications for more low end power.

Would the new 5.6L V8 fit in a G35? I know it's now in the M, but is the engine bay a similar size?

I love engine swaps. I know you can mod the platform engine up, but something about sticking an engine that shouldn't be there in and crafting it in so it all works OEM just appeals to me greatly.

Ok, joking aside. I saw a Sentra with a 3.5 from an Altima at Nopi a few years back. Everyone thought it was just the engine cover, but upon closer inspection, it really was a complete engine swap. Looked factory too.

I bet the 5.6 would fit. The current 5.6 from the Titan has been put in a Coupe, and I imagine the new 5.6 is probably more compact since it's built to go in a car.

 

Now there's a nice thought.

I always said if i win the lotto and can quit my job, i'm gonna build a nice house with a HUGE garage in the basement with huge lifts, 65" TV's, a bar, and the sickest tools around and just build cars for fun.

One car i thought of...a bone stock looking 05/06 G35 sedan, with the X front bumper and G35x on the rear...and a supercharged 4.5L or 5.6L under the hood. Prob make it RWD only...maybe a 6-spd if i can find one that will bolt to those engines and hold the power. Give it a nice quiet exhaust, but one that you can hear the v8 rumble when you get on the gas....and then go find some coupe owners!

 

Supercharge or TT a LS motor and put in there.
There's a kit for the 350z, so I'm sure it wouldn't be too hard.
Then you get a T56 behind it, that'll hold a lot of power.

You are right. Now that I think about it, if i were to do such a thing, an LSx motor might be a good engine to use. Nothing against the 4.5 or 5.6, but the LS aftermarket is huge and the engines are cheap.

The OP might even want to consider this.

If there is a kit for the 350Z, i wonder if anyone has thought about putting an LSx motor in a G35 sedan? Maybe someone bought a cheap 6MT with a bad engine? Swap in an LSx? I wonder what the cost would actually be? Say $10K for a G35 sedan with a blown engine??? Maybe $1K for a decent used LSx motor...possibly with a T56 attached? $4K to spend on misc swap items/kit? Think it can be done for under $15K...with mods to the LSx??

How strong are the IRS rears in these cars? At what power/tq level do the halfshafts start breaking on launches with slicks?


BTW, that garage/home....is absolutely gorgeous!! I wish i could put a car in my living room...and then put it away downstairs!

 

^The rear would NOT be happy, but that can be upgraded easily enough.

You could pick up a G35 with a blown engine WAAAAY cheaper than that. I bought mine for under $10 running like a champ (despite the 100K mi)
I would venture you could probably pick up a decent 03 with a blown engine for $5k.

A good low mi LS1 with a T-56 was running $2k last time I checked. And $4-6k to do the swap sounds about right.

 

LSx swap into a sedan would be a great swap. It's bascily the same as swapping it into a coupe/Z as the important parts are almost indentical.

I've been reading up on how 1 or 2 Z guys have resolved their electrical issues of running the LSx motor on it's own ecu and retaining the G/Z ecu to run the BCM functions.

I think whatever the FI guys are running for their rear drivetrain stuff would work here.

I'd even entertain the the thought of running a Vette 6 sp auto. But can't remember if the Vette auto is a rear mount also.
