G35 starting issues - hard start

Okay, I searched the forums bset I could before I posted this but couldn't find anything recent, so here goes...

My 04 G35X, 79,000km's is doing some strange things on start up. Every like 5th time you go to drive it it won't start right away.

I'll go to start it, turn the key and it will sound like the battery is dead and barely turn over once and then just click. Then I'll try it a second time and it might do this again. If not on the second try, usually the third time I try and start it it fires up like normal. Starter spins at good speed and starts like a brand new car. It will be okay for a day or two and then I'll have this problem again. No dash lights on, no CEL, nothing out of the ordinary besides the hard start.

I've checked the battery terminals, no corrosion and they are on tight. I haven't test the battery with a volt meter as I find it hard to believe it would be low on the first start, then receive a magic charge and be able to start on the 2nd or 3rd try with no issues.

Any ideas?? It is REALLY annoying.

I'm open to suggestions for DIY or replacing some parts if needed as I'm not taking it the dealership so they can take all my money.

Thanks!

have battery checked. voltage might be good, but the CCA might be low.
if battery checks out...have the starter inspected.
hope this helps.

I the battery is original, then it's prob at the end of it's lifespan.

Have teh battery LOAD tested. Just putting a voltmeter on it is not going to tell you anything. If you take it to autozone, they have a cart they can wheel out and check your charging system.

Right now, i'm suspecting battery needs replacement. What you described does sound like a typical symptom of a failing battery

Wow, old post! I'm on my 4th Infiniti since this one with a 2011 fx35 now.

I don't remember what the outcome was. I did buy a new battery and i think that helped. I do remember i ended up selling the car shortly after i posted this... Had a throttle position sensor issue around same time and I replaced throttle body, may have been related?

Sorry. I normally do my best to update my posts as its so annoying to find these never updated, but thos ones too old to recall.

Good luck.
