Just can't please you guys
By the sounds of it, it doesn't look like the '05 sedan has been recieved well. I am not a fan of the exterior changes but I don't think they are as bad as everyone makes them out to be.
Here is my question, if you were on the Infiniti design team, what changes from the '03 and '04 would you have made for the '05 sedan?

Shodog, I agree!
Not only what changes would you have made if you were on Infiniti's design team, but bear in mind that you'll have a limited corporate budget for making "update" changes only, vs. a whole lot more $$$ available when it's time for a complete redesign.
I think the updates are not necessarily good or bad (except for horepower gains - always good in my book), they just "are". Car makers have to update and massage their products, to keep current with the market and prevent the model from going stale.
Only time and history will judge the changes, and how they are eventually viewed in the long haul. For example, the newer Vipers are much more civilized and easier to drive (fast) than the early models, and appear to be overall more desirable in the marketplace. But would you rather have a 1964/1965 Mustang, or an "updated" 1968?? The present market says 1964/65 'Stangs are the more desirable of the two (despite the "civilized" updates to the 1968), after 40 years of retrospection.
Change is inevitable - but it's fun to speculate and debate, isn't it??

Re: Just can't please you guys
I don't see any major changes to the '05, it still looks good to me, and the interior tweak is nice too, if there had been a major change in the design then I could see people bitching about it, geez, move on!

I would have made a sport version of the G35. 6MT with 298HP, Nismo body kit, 18"inch wheels from the coupe and aggresive rubber. A special 2 tone interior appearance with seats that have higher side bolsters.

Ooh, this might be fun. Here's what I'd do:
1. More aggressive front end and nice dualies on the rear end. Keep the LED dots but change them - very unique.
2. Aux input for mp3 players
3. Hopped up special model, at least 320hp
4. Projector beam headlights on sedan, different from coupe
5. More sensible heater/ac and radio controls. I always have to look.
6. Offer warranted chip upgrades on 03 to 05 cars.

Here's what I would have changed:
1. Autoleveling HIDs
2. Sport package with 18" wheels, standard aluminum pedals, different side sills, and a different front facia with integrated foglights (I'm too used to having fogs down low)
3. Daytime running lamps (with ability to disable upon request)
4. Height adjustable armrest fot the 6mt (kinda like the one in the 2000-2003 Maxima)
5. Autolamp sensitivity adjustment ****.
That's about it.

Re: Just can't please you guys
For me all that other stuff is not that important. Since the G is one of the best looking sports sedan, just give me a 100HP increase and leave the car alone!!!! I would rather the G stay more performance, than migrate to the luxury class. If I want luxury, then I would look a the Lexus, MB, etc. Just my $0.02.

Re: Just can't please you guys
Come on, if you just want performance, buy a new Mustang GT or Cobra, Infiniti is a "kuxury" brand, and there is nothing wrong with a luxury perfomance car IMO! I find mine to be a luxury sport!

Re: Just can't please you guys
i would have just liked to have seen a sport version as well. i don't know....lower stance, stock 18" that look closer to the coupes but def not the new split spoke....true dual exhaust w/ dual tips....slightly more aggressive front bupmer...maybe more aggressive fender treatment and 4.5 v8!!! like what BMW does with it's M cars. is that asking too much?
Re: Just can't please you guys
I'm at the point where I will always want more, no matter what the car comes with. I guess I'm too much of a car geek to settle. Sure there are things I would have liked different on the G but there's so much that was done "just right". I have to admit, my G bone stock makes me smile way more than I did with my last car and I loved that car!

Like the way you think - especially that 4.5 V-8 idea!
I don't think you are asking too much, and I think Infiniti's engineers can do it, but when offered for sale, I bet we'd look at the price and then the question comes up again - are THEY asking too much ?? ($$$).

Re: Just can't please you guys
Rustang GT? Last time I checked the G looked nothing like that. And Infiniti is definatly more performance than luxury. It's been that way since day one. My old 90 Q45 was definately more of a performer than the 90 LS400 when I did a back to back test in 1990. On the other hand, the LS400 was way more luxurious the the Q. I prefer performance/luxury over luxury/performance.

Re: Just can't please you guys
Good point, Typhoon, I bet 90% of the people on this site (and probably 75% of all G35 owners) would rather the emphasis remain on performance, with luxury as a secondary matter.
Given the choice, performance always rides shotgun with me, while luxury can take the back seat.

Well that sort of was my point, it has the performance, but it's cheap inside!
