Anyone seen this?
Re: Anyone seen this?
I just had my rotors and pads replaced last week. 20200 miles. The car is a 2003 with an in service date of 6/02. That gives me just 9 more months of warranty if the ones they put in are as crappy as the originals. I just looked up the cost of rotors and pads for a sport equipped sedan at Everything Nissan.com. $1157.30 for parts only. Figure about $1500.00 or so total.
Now, I know we have great brakes, but... While pads are a wear item and last accordingly a rotor should last FAR longer than 20,000 miles! Should last four times as long. SOMETHING is wrong here. $1500 bucks every 20,000 miles for brakes? No thanks.

Agreed. My front rotors were shot at 14500 miles.

Well... Rotor without Sport suspension: $104.52. $209.04 per rair. Rotor with Sport suspension: $518.88! $1037.76 per pair!!! I have no idea why the HUGE difference. The price doesn't change my point though. 20,000 miles on a rotor is crap. Plain and simple. My guess is that it is a material problem from the rotor manufacturer. The wear surface is too soft. I've used cast iron rotors and sintered metal pads on race bikes and had longer rotor life.

Re: Anyone seen this?
My old car, a Passat blew through rotors in less than 15k miles. The first set was replaced at 10K ! The dealer did not even cover them under warrantee, they blamed my driving style. After installing aftermarket rotors at 40K miles I had no further problems. In retrospect, I think the touchfree carwahes with the high pressure wheel spray had something to do with warping the stock rotors, but like I said, I had no problems with aftermarket parts.

Re: Anyone seen this?
I dont get it. I have 43K on my 03.5 sedan and never had the stock pads or rotors replaced. Just had the tires rotated at Les Schwab and they said I've probably got another 10-15K on the front pads, and a ton left on the rears. You guys must be doing some serious high speed stops to be burning through these pads in less than 20K, or I just got lucky. I dunno, but I'm not complaining about Infiniti brakes to anybody, especially a lawyer looking for a meal ticket.
Re: Anyone seen this?
After my warranty I'm going aftermarket. This is so ridiculous having to change brakes and rotors every 7-10k. When I had my 02' maxima, I had to replace the brakes every 10-15k. plus the hubs and bearings were replaced. Nissan just makes crappy brakes I guess.

Re: Anyone seen this?
Why would the two different suspensions have different
brake parts? Are the part numbers different between the
non-sport vs. sport suspensions?

Been thinking about this.....
Does the Sport option also include different rotors as well
as the different suspension?

Re: Anyone seen this?
I have 42k on my 6MT sedan (2003), still have original rotors and I am just barely on my second set of pads. I feel the brakes are fine.
My 2 cents.
