Anyone seen this?

I was checking at Infiniti Help, and came across this post from a "lawyer", at the very bottom of the page, wonder what that is about?

Re: Anyone seen this?

I sent Marc an email about my brake history. Replaced
pads every 15K miles, rotors at 30K miles. Don't have a clue
what that is about..............

Re: Anyone seen this?

Just got an email from Marc, the lawyer. He asked me to
send him all the Infiniti brake repair receipts. I have asked
what is going on. Will let you know when I do.

Re: Anyone seen this?

Here is Marc's reply to my query:

We have filed a class action on behalf of G35 owners who own vehicles that have the brake defect. Since Infiniti has already extended the warranty, we are seeking to obtain compensation (whether via money or another extension/expansion of the warranty) for G35 owners who will continue to have to replace brake pads and rotors at an abnormal rate and whose vehicles are worth less money (i.e., have a diminished value) as a result. If you know anyone else that has experienced the same problem, we would appreciate hearing their story too.

Thanks, and please keep in touch. I will look forward to receiving your materials (feel free to fax, email or mail).

My 2004 has great brake life

I know a lot of you have had problems with short brake life, but I already have 24,000 miles on my '04 and I'm still on the original pads and rotors. This is the longest life I've ever gotten out of a set of rotors and pads on any car I've owned in 25 years! I drive pretty fast, so brake wear has always been an issue with me. Part of the problem I have had in the past is that I regularly drive on certain windy highways that have a few stoplights. This means I do a lot of heavy braking, even when I don't attend the regular track days and autocrosses I used to. On my last car, (a 2000 Maxima) I never got more than 10,000 miles from a set of rotors. Prior to that, I owned about a dozen BMW's....and it was always the same story. My worst was Turbo AWD Plymouth (Mitsubishi) that could ruin a set of factory rotors in three 80-0 mph stops. My V8 Jeep absolutely eats brakes as well.

I think that about the same time as Infiniti came out with the extended warrantee for the brakes, they must have reformulated the pads, and perhaps the metallurgy in the rotors, because I really feel they no longer have an issue here. I'd bet a "normal" driver would not qualify for warantee replacement of brakes on a 2004+.

Re: Anyone seen this?

All this will achieve is a G35 with worse and worse braking distances.

Happened just this way on early Q45 when the orginal braking distances were 129 feet they went up to 150 feet with harder pads and tires to satisfy the whiners. Then some tried to sue because the performance dropped from the orginal.
Same with substituting a Dunlop D80V4 tire for the Michelin Sport to try to increase tire life............by 1994 the Q45 wasn't anything like the orginal performance version.

Infiniti had a habit of reducing performance to try to keep the average driver happy about maintenance cost.

Re: Anyone seen this?

All I can say is, on my '03 sedan, I had to replace the brakes 3 times and the rotors once within 45000 miles, BUT, any money I put out of pocket on this, Infiniti reimbursed me when their warranty came into effect, so I am not sure about a class action suit. I got my cash back so I am satisfied. Although, I wouldn't mind the brake warranty to mimic the standard warranty...

Re: My 2004 has great brake life

Were your other cars auto? Because I put 65K on my 94 Probe GT before changing the front pad and the rears were still original when I traded it in at 97K. On my 01 Dodge Intrepid I changed front pads at 30K and on my 03.5 G35 I changed them at 24K.

I drive the G35 faster and it has much better brakes. The Dodge was rated for 60-0 in 154ft. The brakes were scary bad.

So IMOP the trade off is okay with me. I'd rather pay more for maintenance and be alive because I know these brakes could save me someday.

Re: Anyone seen this?

Q45Tech makes a good point. What do you want, a car that stops as well or better than any competitor (and may well save your life, or serious damage to you and your "G" because of this ability), or "watered down" braking because the factory cuts back on the aggressiveness of their present system (pad material, rotors, etc.).

Right now, we have the best of both world's - excellent brakes that perform better than most any other, yet free replacement in the event that they wear out within the time frame that "regular" brakes would.

What are we complaining about ??

Oh yeah, that's right - it's not US complaining, it's some attorney looking to screw the world up further rather than do something meaningful with his life - and we don't even know if he owns a "G", or even owns a car at all !!

Also, wonder how many innocent lives have been (to this point) and will be saved by our car's superior braking ability, which enables us to avoid some crashes entirely, and minimize the damage in others.

Since Infiniti stepped right up to the plate on the issue of premature brake wear, I say we tell this attorney to go pound sand!

Re: Anyone seen this?

I spoke with Marc by phone yesterday. He does indeed own
a G coupe with the Brembo brakes. He is fighting Infiniti to
extend the brake warranty beyond the 36K miles. The current
warranty is not good enough. I had to shell out a bunch of
cash to fix my brakes at 44K miles. Had to replace the pads
that were replaced under warranty. They still last just 15K
miles of normal use.Hey, if we get an extended brake warranty
so much the better!
