But depending on the car, mods, and tune, the two can get very close to each other very early at say, 2500.

Hmm... am I getting something mixed up here? Oh well... I already know my car... your car isn't my problem!

At 2500 rpm the horsepower will be less than half the torque.

The formula looks like this:

So at 5252 rpm you get exactly P = T. My G35x would also be going 139mph!

P would be 0.5*T at 2626 rpm, etc.

It has nothing to do with who built the engine or its state of tune. It just comes from the definition of horsepower.

Thanks for clearing that up.

What do you get if you set cruise for 55 mph?

i don't use the trip computer...
i use the fill up and divide by miles driven and the time it took to get where i'm going (on a 2+ hour road trip with no stops) over the distance traveled. Log several of these and you'll be able to approximate the most efficient speed. But other factors like weight (luggage, misc. items, etc in trunk) do play an important role too.

^^^ 100% correct. I think I got like 40 mpg one time but I'd have to be going downhill until the tank goes empty.

Basically, you want to maximize the ratio of speed:rpm. I've never avearged more than 27MPG (with cruise) on any of my long trip.

HOLD IT IN THE ROAD...

They have said in the past that 55-60 is the best, but with our 6speed trannies, you could prolly get the best between 60-65. I get almost 24mpg(23.65656) just driving back and forth to work with mine around that speed.

Nobody....that's my point! Back to the original question/topic...my response/post is a valid one. Did you see the post above? Someone set cruise control to 45 MPH and averaged 34.5 MPG. Do you need me to go on?
