Check Engine Light???
Check Engine Light???
Well it hasnt happened in my year of having the car whihc is 15k miles approx (August) or after my mods, i know the light should pop up with test pipes after 1k miles on the car (?) but ive had the exhaust and test pipe's on for over a month and way over 1k miles, i turned off my car then turned it back on and it was still there, then i did an ECU reset and it went away. Now i was driving it not hard but aggressivlely after to see if it would pop on again and it didnt, should i be worried about it and get it checked?? Thanks, Martin..

Re: Check Engine Light???
Hey
My CEL comes on once a week since the installation of the test pipes.... and it was a cat-related code...
NExt time it comes up... don't reset. Get it read with a reader. If you guys have autozone there... they do loan out scanners. When you get the code, if you don't have the shop manual, post 'em and I will look it up. The only way to know for sure

This happened to me also. Turned out that I left the gas cap
sitting in the holder instead of putting it back on. Check
the gas cap!
03 5AT Sedan, sunroof, splashguards, HKS muffler,
14 wire Grounding kit, Z Duct, Stillen HF/AB
Underbody rear diffusers, Drilled alum pedals,
Stillen sway bars H/H

Re: Check Engine Light???
I set off my SES light when I changed my air filter and moved the car before reconnecting the mass airflow sensor. Doh!!!
ECU reset hasn't made it go away. I'm now waiting for my AutoTap code reader to be shipped. There are dozens and dozens of sensors in the car that can set off the SES light. A while back I paid a Ford dealer $130 to tell me that my wife had left the gas cap off her car once. This is why I believe a code reader is a worthwhile investment. Even if you don't repair the car yourself, it's worth knowing what is wrong with the car befor you take it to a mechanic.
I also feel that spending $20 downloading the service manual from the Infiniti website is the bargain of the century. Everything you ever wanted to know about your car is in the service manual. Good luck.

You can do the pedal ECU reset procedure to determine what the SES code is. After the car goes into that mode (you have to do the pedal dance first, of course), the SES light blinks 10 times and then it does three sets of blinks with each set of blinks corresponding to one digit (and 10 blinks means 0).
Sorry if that makes no sense. Once you know the code, I can tell you what it means (via the service manual).

Yes, the resetting the ECU procedure is the way you tell the code. After the SES light blinks 10 times at the completion of the procedure it will then go dark for a second or two and then do three sets of blink to count out the code.

My SES light did not go off by itself either. I used AutoTap to reset it. Either take it to the dealer or find someone with a code reader.
There's physically nothing wrong with your car. For some reason the MAS does not reset itself after an ECU reset.
Good luck.

Thanks for that info. I have done the battery disconnect, but have not tried the pedal method??? It is under warranty but too much of a hassel to take in? Maybe just go to an auto store?
You need to figure out what the code is before trying to get rid of it. It could be just about anything. I wish car manufactures would stop playing the hidden code game and just tell the driver what is wrong. It seems silly for someone to have to make time to take their car to the dealer when the gas cap is not tight enough. The driver does not know if it is a serious problem or not so CEL's often get ignored.
I don't know if it is the case with Infiniti, but some car manufactures keep their codes a secret so you are forced to take your car to the dealer. Independent shops cannot do a thing about it and are upset.
