jawjaw,

Calgary knows what the code is. That's why he quoted my earlier post. He replaced the air filter (which requires that you disconnect the MAS). He started the car with the MAS disconnected (as I had done). I guarantee that if you plug his car into a code reader you will get a MAS related code.

So PotomacG is there anything I can do now myself? I tried the pedal method 12 times, unhooked neg terminal 12 hours, gas lid is tight. Seems to run fine, just pisses me off! I change the flippin air filter & I have to take a day off to take my car to Infiniti?

Yes. Invest in an OBD II code reader. If you have a laptop or PDA I suggest AutoTap

Use it once or twice and it's paid for itself. The manufacturer also sends out very insightful emails on how AutoTap can solve all kinds of diagnostic headaches for the shadetree mechanic.

There are less expensive, hand-held code readers you can get at most autoparts stores. There are some stores that even loan out their code readers. This is your only real choice, short of bringing the car in somewhere. (dealer or other repair center).

Talking Thanks Poto

Hey potomacG took my car to Auto Value, where I bought the K&N. He just brought his little hand held plugged it in, did a scan then data, then scrolled to erase code problem & it was gone. The code problem said P0106 ,but means nothing to me. Seems to run the same & I guess next time I have to buy one, but never had this occur on any other car?

I know it can diagnois the problems but who c an fix them. I used to be able to change trannies & engines but that was in the 70's, now I can do oil, plugs, brakes, the rest is scientific? Thanks again!!!

That's the beauty of OBD II. If you have a service manual, you are golden.
Here's what the manual says about PO106. (Section PO101 part 6)
In your case, you left the sensor disconnected on engine start. In this case the code you got makes perfect sense.

DTC P0101 MAF SENSOR
6. CHECK MAF SENSOR GROUND CIRCUIT FOR OPEN AND SHORT
1. Turn ignition switch “OFF”.
2. Disconnect ECM harness connector.
3. Check harness continuity between MAF sensor terminal 3 and ECM terminal 80.
Refer to Wiring Diagram.
4. Also check harness for short to ground and short to power.
OK or NG
OK >> GO TO 7.
NG >> Repair open circuit or short to ground or short to power in harness or connectors.
