2003 Sedan Vibrating/Shaking in Idle and in Gear

Hello All!

I am new to the forum, I have searched around for similar posts but my situation is a little awkward I decided to post a new thread. Here is what happened:

My G was running fine, no problems at all. I was hitting a corner at about 20-30mph and smashed into a curb. I scuffed the rims up pretty bad and threw my alignment off. The back tire was actually bent inwards after the hit. I had to replace the rear camber link because the old one was bent. This corrected the bent tire. I then had all 4 tires aligned at Sears Auto and it now rides straight again.

However, when I start the car and it is in idle, or if I am stopped while it is in gear, I feel a slight vibration, which is intermittent, about every second or two. Also when I pull off rough, I feel and hear the rear tires skidding slightly. I also notice that my SLIP light does not come on anymore when acceleration rough.

1) Could me smashing into the curb have caused my motor mounts to break or become loose, which is causing the intermittent vibration? However I didn't physically see the engine moving any measurable degree when I revved it to see if it was the motor mounts.

2) What is up with my SLIP light? After the tire was bent and I drove it back to my house, the VDC and SLIP light stayed on. After I installed the new camber link, the lights went off, but now the SLIP doesn't seem to come on and/or be working. Is there some sort of reset I need to do here?

3) If not the motor mounts, something engine wise, like the fuel system or something? I don't see how this could happen though, the car was running perfect until I hit the curb, so it shouldn't be anything mechanical wise.

4) Lastly, I notice that when I turn the car off, the engine vibrates a bit harder. Like 3 good shakes before it shuts off. It never used to do this before the crash.

Also, I have a 2003 G35 Sedan, 135K miles. I appreciate the help guys, thank!

PS, if you wanna see how bad I bent the camber link, I attached a photo below :-)

Well since I never got a reply, I still don't know what it is!

But here's my guess:

When I hit the curb, it must've knocked my motor mounts loose, that's why I felt a shift/vibration when I pull edoff and revved hard. I didn't want to spend the money for new mounts so I did a quick fix. I got a ratchet tie down and literally tied down the engine and hooked it to the frame. I know it sounds stupid but it actually feels better than when I first bought the car. More firmness/torque I suppose?

As for the slip light, I think I pulled the battery for a few hours to reset it. That now works fine.

Hope this helps

You should be able to test for motor mounts - rock the engine by hand with it off. The motor mounts are very strong and i have seen them hold up very well under a lot of power.

Get under the car and take a look if you can. Look at the trans mounts as well.

sorry it took so long to reply back. i just got my gee back from my friends shop and after having to replace my radiator and hoses and fan and clutch. i found out that the vibration could be from my water pump pully if not the pump alone. now my car is running fine. but my issue might not be the same as yours. But if you have 150k miles on your car, be ready to start changing out the water pump lol. Hope that helps a little for you. Mike.
