Horrible Smell Coming from the AC

Feel sort of dumb that I don't know how I can fix this... but so yesterday or the day before I started getting a bad smell in the car.. like something had died or something was decomposing. Thought that I stepped on dog crap or something. Or I had or someone had and they stepped on my carpetting.

But I soon found out that it wasn't any of that. It was actually comming from the AC. If I have it get air from the outside then it starts smelling pretty bad, but when I have it just circulate the air from inside the car then it's fine for the most part.

My question is.. is there a carbon filter or something that I can get into so that I can clean it out? Or what can I do?

theres a cabin filter for the a/c that is located behind the glove box. search and you will find a lot of info on this and how to take it out. something probably did die in it

Yeah it takes all of 10 minutes the first time you do it. After that it should only take about 5 minutes.

Alright I checked the air filter. Took it out and everything.. nothing in it.. Took it out and then let the AC go for awhile and it still smells HORRIBLE! Even when I push on the button that recirculates the air from the inside.. it still smells REALLY bad..

Going to try to use an air compressor to maybe blow whatever is in there out, but I guess there might be something stuck in the pipes in the middle maybe?

If anyone has any ideas i'd greatly appreciate it lol.

That was ridiculous.. waste of time.. think I might of been because of the air freshener that I was using.. took it out and letting the air circulate with the doors open right now. Hope that it'll fix it or I won't know what to do... besides going to the stealership for an AC refresher service lol.

Was using this one really popular brand.. Air Spencer. Spent like $11 + shipping and handling for it -____-.

Replace the in cabin air filter regardless. And throw in one of these where the in cabin air filter is as well

Every time you turn on the AC you'll get a nice pleasant scent.

If I have to I guess.. the air filter seemed fine though.. wasn't that dirty and all and that looks pretty interesting.

I gotta see if there's any of those Japanese stores near by cause I want to actually know the smell before I buy you know hah.

But thanks

Most shops that have aftermarket parts will have them. I love the pink one. The purple is good too. They ran out at my shop and I needed some so I got the light blue and red. Amplified Motorsport in Monterey Park carries them. Hit up Lou.

Which one do you need? Large Neo Squash or Light Squash?

Edit: To make it fit in with the air cabin filter.
