Transmission isn't broke... but I haz teh dumb

So I thought my transmission was going out... turns out I was just experiencing an error ID-10-t

Yesterday I put my coupe middy on... and drove it around a little (a few 0-80 runs in auto, nothing big)

Today, I got my long-tube CAI re-installed (been running short-ram temporally) and I had to fab an aluminum rain-guard because the Nismo replica bumper is soooo much more open than the old oem 03.

So I go out on the hwy to test it... everything sounds fantastic... couple 0-80 runs... such a sweeeeet sound... all good... manual mode... pull in third... let off... down to around 50... tap it into 2nd... KEEKERRRRRRDAAADRREEEEKKKKKKKSSSSSSKKKKK (me->) terrible mechanical grinding noise, sounded like you stuck a screwdriver into a metal fan

First of all I immediately dump it back out of manual mode, and it stops making the noise just as soon as it shifts back into a higher gear.
I think "oh great, my transmission is going... I finally have a little money in the bank, and I'm about to have to drop over a grand getting the transmission fixed

So I thought I might as well make sure it wasn't a fluke... I repeated the process, manual in 3rd, but this time I didn't bump it into 2nd until like 40... still made a terrible sound, just not quite as bad as the first time, but it stopped once the revs got down a bit.
So, leaving it in first, I got into it hard up til near redline and then let off, didn't make the sound... so I slowed down enough to tap it into first... gerrrrrrrrrriiiiiiiiirnnnnnnnnd.... similar sound, just lower pitch, but this time I noticed something... it wasn't coming from the transmission
The sound was coming from the middle/rear of the car
So I thought about what it might be...

When I put the coupe middy on, I was told the heat shield under the driveshaft would hit and rattle (I'm sure it would have) so I beat it up out of the way... only I beat it a little TOO FAR out of the way
The heat shield was only about 1/8th inch from the driveshaft on one part, so when I shifted down, it sprung the various motor/transmission/etc mounts in the opposite direction from normal making the driveshaft go down juuuuuuust enough to rub on that heat shield.
I bent it back away from the driveshaft just a little, took it back out... shifted from 3rd to 2nd bringing it close to redline and.... no noise (well other than a really sweet sounding rev from the new intake/exhaust )

The moral of the story is this: don't bend the daylights out of heat-shields, or else you'll think your transmission is broken

Ok, now proceed with posting of "cool story bro" and "TL/DR"
