You could easily that car for at least $1000 more. Only take the offer if you don't want to deal with the hassle of selling the vehicle.

So... my car... the paint is all in good condition (could use a detail with clay), has 125,xxx miles and counting, has been in like two accidents but I've repaired it without leaving it on my carfax records but when I bought the car it already had an accident (friggin autocheck told me it didn't have an accident though -_-).

My car needs a new brake pad and a left front control arm bushing, whenever I go over bumps on my left side I hear this thud.

 

im sure u could get more from private.... like 8k.. pads are cheap... bushings.. not many notice them if they are not looking for em.

 

LOL did you really just say that you averted Carfax after an accident, then complain about a prior not showing up on autocheck in the same breath? Honestly, I'd guess that to be about what you could expect wherever you go on trade-in. Maybe less if there were full disclosure.

If you trade in a car you are giving up at least $1k and closer to $2k than a private sale. In other words, it only makes sense if you know your transmission needs to be replaced or some other huge expense is required for the car. I've only ever traded a car one time, and that was why - you are both screwing each other so it's all good

Trading a car that's been in some unreported accidents pretty much falls into the same category as above to me. Although it sounds like if you could have gotten away with someone not knowing it had been in accidents you would have taken advantage. Not cool.

BTW - it is not hard for a garage to determine if a car has been in an accident even if unreported.

See when I bought my car, it said on autoreport that my car was not involved in an accident, that when the dealer gave me the carfax for my car, it said there was an accident.
So using both autocheck and carfax is a good idea.

Also about my accident, I didn't file insurance on it since it was only a front bumper/control arm bushings install.

It was only the control arm bushing and the front bumper which needed to be replaced.

The rear back passenger door wasn't even scratched, the paint shop had it painted over even though I didn't ask them because I effed up reverse parking the second day I got my car.

Think about how much did you originally got this car for, now minus that by $6313 and that's how much you would've lost if you were to trade it in for another car. With two mods new brake pad and a left front control arm bushing which will cost you just shy from $300 bucks, you can get at the very least $1500 more from a private party. Now which one is more worthy for you? $300 for $1500 more? Or $6313 with a huge lost on your end because you wanna trade it in? Like someone else mentioned above, only trade in cars if you absolutely have no time to deal with the sale or simply don't want to deal with the hassle.

 

I never trade in. It's too much of a loss. Replace the easy stuff and disclose the accidents to people who will buy it. Yes, it will turn people away, but someone will buy it.

Do the fixes, throw it up for $9k, have someone negotiate it down to $8.5k and call it a day.
