I know that I'm not mechanically inclined enough to pull of a project like this by myself. I also don't know enough about electronics. I would have liked to at least try and get some help from friends, but because I couldn't afford the downtime on my car I would have needed a set of spare headlights to attempt this project, which are very pricey. I applaud r1forever80 for stepping up and offering his services to 1st Gen Sedans who want to do this.

 

Its highly doable, just alot of downtime if you are going to do it yourself. Definitely get another set of headlights, and after you are done sell it back. Currently working on my friends IS350 headlight, project is put on hold until he gets a spare because its exhausting to work on it the whole day then have to wrap everything up put it back in his car at night.

There are probably 3 guys I'd consider for this job.

E_K - He has no time, and refuses to take on a project of extreme magnitude.

IGT - He has stopped working on sedan retrofit headlights as far as I know.

R1forever - I took a chance with him and I must say the guy is genius. Not only did he do what others have taken 200+ hours in a matter of 5 days, he threw in a bunch of extra services for free. The guy is a fabricator/painter/installer by trade, what else do you need? Headlights were painted inside a booth with a spray gun as opposed to a rattle can, and he built me a quad projector bracket inside my headlight that retainsmy adjustability. Needless to say, I'm only saying this because I'm a satisfied customer. Many of you know me and my car, I don't accept cheap **** alternatives, only the best or I dont throw it on the car. The dude is easy to reach, and I talk to him on a daily basis just about nonsense. Yeah, pretty much he's more of a friend that wants to help you mod your car rather than make money. I'd go to him 100%.

 

I want low beam projectors sooooo bad. Nothing fancy just projectors installed with no LED's and such.

 

It is my understanding that the bottom of our headlights have way more room than the top. So having bi-xenon on the bottom is definitely possible.

As far as the top, TSX or S2k only, S2k probably your best bet as they're just a tad smaller than TSX.

 

^^^what he said. Thanks for all the kind words Aaron. Just fyi everytime i do a retrofit i have to disassemble my front end to aim the lights. Until i have time to make a jig to mount the lights so they are aimed properly my car will be down until the retro is complete. Only thing is if you do a bixenon down low you will need another hid kit to power the top as it can only be used as a fog due to the bcm controlling the power and no way to bypass it unless you spend more money. If you just do a s2k up top you will just need that and the shroud along with the bulbs

 

Good lord!!! Just learned how much just a headlight housing cost!

This may not work since I would, in essence, have to buy new headlight housings for the build as I still need to use my OEMs. Thoughts???

For the money I would think u would get more bang for ur buck by getting other mods like new front, sides, or wheels IMO.

 

it really depends on the parts and the source of them. S2k projectors are really rare and to find a matching pair usually will be $400-500. TLs are anywhere from 180-250 ish, TSX around 200. FX projectors are a bit cheaper than the TL, Clear lenses $40-80 depending on wich. Bulbs are completely up to the user. Philips are the best on the market @ about 200 a pair brand new, however, there are a lot of aftermarket D2s brands that run about $40. Shrouds are about 60-100 a pair, ballasts are also up to the user. Oem quality are usually 120-150 a pair.

After all that.....hen you get into the labor :X LOL.

 

^+1, this is a pricey mod, another reason why not many people have done it. I got extremely lucky to get an amazing deal on the only 1st Gen Sedan IvoryGT projector headlights. After selling my stock headlights I was only out ~$400.

 

^ yes u did get lucky. I really wanted the ones u got but I already spent a ton of money on mods at the time.

 

For the top you can also look into Lexus RX projectors. When I was asking IvoryGT about quads he recommended RXs and S2Ks.

for the top slot you wont be able to fit the oem tsx or rx projectors on top. they are a little to big. I have tested both of them so far in the past couple days since i am starting my quads. But i think i can get it to fit with some modding.

 

You 100% have to mod by hacking away the reflector...thats guranteed no matter what. the top has enough room, you just have to hack it away, and then build an adjustable bracket.

that process alone discouraged me from attacking this project on my own. Especially since you pretty much get 1 shot at it. LOL
