Opinion's needed on new seat!!!
Opinion's needed on new seat!!!
As you may have read, I am getting my seat re-upholstered to resolve the issue with my leg hurting.
I currently setup the appointment to get the controls removed, and a new whole bolster put in place of the old one. Basically a copy of hte left one on the right.
My problem is if I really want to do that or just have the guy lower the controls all the way to the bottom and keep the boster as it is. I would just have him remove all the brackets and add more foam to reinforce.
So. What do you think.
A.) Remove controls and install a whole new bolster, or
B.) move controls down to seat frame and remove all brackets.
thanks guys

Re: Opinion's needed on new seat!!!
Mike, fortunatly the seat hasn't bothered me to terrible much yet, but I think that is because I only drive my car 30-40 minutes at a time. If I were to go on longer trips I think I'd be in some pain.
So I was really interested in your other topic about having the bolster redone and moving the controls, so much so I've started to think about doing it.
You could always move the controls and see if it is any better and if not then get the seat redone.
Either way you're going to have to do something right? So might was well start with the least cost fix and work you way up.

Re: Opinion's needed on new seat!!!
Actually I did try moving the controls out and down a while ago. It seemed to work for maybe an hour.....I wanted the upholster to move them lower like on the frame of the seat.
Or my other choice is remove them completely.
Still undecided, guess I'll find out what I really want on friday.
thanks

Re: Opinion's needed on new seat!!!
As I recall, someone has moved the controls lower and raised the bottom of the seat by addind more cushion. I know that the seat feels better, but I don't remember the long term affects. You might want to go through the long post again, probably toward the end.
If you don't want to mess with it ever again and leave no doubt, the only option is to remove the brackets and move the controls completely away from the seat bolster. If you move them lower, and it still bothers you, you are going to have to move it again. If it were me, I would move the controls to a completely different location. Let us know how it goes....

Re: Opinion's needed on new seat!!!
Hello Mike....I believe you will need a total bolster rebuild with the seat controls moved elsewhere to acheive true comfort. I have had the seat out of my sedan and there seems to be plenty of wire to move the controls, though I have not done so up to this point. I would suggest the lower front of the drivers seat. There is some hard plastic down there that the controls should attach to nicely and still be reasonably within reach. I think some good strong velcro strips would do a pretty nice job and also be easy to remove if the need ever arises. Or I guess you could use screws or nuts and bolts for a more permanent attachment. I am most interested in your decision and outcome on this...Please post as many good pics as possible and an account of how it feels after the fix.....Thanks and good luck.....GeeSpot

Re: Opinion's needed on new seat!!!
Thanks for the replies guys.
After a long night of deciding what to do and looking at my seat, I finally decided on moving the controls to the front of the seat and having the full bolster put in, along with more padding on the seat as well.
I looked at it from every angle and basically remembering every seat I've owned in a car. All the way from my mustang to accord to jag. None of them had the controls on the side nor did they have metal brackets in the leather seats.
So, I will take some pics thursday night of what the seat looks like now. Then friday I will pick it up and take more pics, hopefully be able to post them that night.
I also plan on buying a disposable camera for my upholster guy. That way maybe he can take some shot while doing it, so everyone can see the progress.
I will definitely let you all know
thanks

Thanks,
I finally got my paperwork for my two BBB complaints against Infiniti, hopefully I can get it done this week. I am hoping that Infiniti will reimburse me for the expenses of the seat, and also pay for any pain and suffering i have occured so far.
If not, then at least I tried and got my seat fixed. Hopefully others have contacted the BBB as well.
thanks
