new g35 owner xenon headlight question?
^ Yes it will turn the lights on automatically when it gets dark, the Light sensor is on the dash right were the glass and dash meet there are 2 circle plastic things it might be dirty or covered up or broken if when you put it into Auto it just stays on.
Most of the times its on the outside. Check these:

This feature is an option, not all g35 have it. If the headlight stalk says AUTO on it then the lights will come on automatically when it's dark and go off when it's light or 45 seconds after turning the car off.
To the op. The daytime running lights are required by funny Canadian law. They high beams run at 40% power when the lights are off and parking brake not set. When you turn the headlights on, the highs go off and the low beam hid come on 100%. unsure if this is what you are seeing
just remember the higher you go in Kelvin the brighter your headlights will be but you wont get good output range.
i find the best Kelvin for the output is 5000K u get a nice solid white if u want blueish go with 6000K

I sanded my headlights with 3000 grit and a pneumatic sander and pollished them after and they look excellent. maybe ill do 1500 than 3000 next time though. My next question is. does anybody know the best HID 6000k bulbs to buy off ebay with out spending too much money? thank you.
Sunlight is anywhere from 4500k to 6500k depending on the time of day and weather conditions. As a result, the human eye sees best right around 5k through evolution.
Europe uses 5000k bulbs in their oem hid setups, while the us is regulated to around 4300k.

I decided to upgrade my stock bulbs. My stock bulbs were 4300k Philips D2R bulbs, I really liked the Philips so I bought 6000k Philips D2R bulbs. They look great, barely a tint of blue but a little to make it stand out.

Now that you've polished them and they look good, you'll need to seal them with an excellent sealant, such as Collinite 845, or a clear bra cover. I use this sealant, which is also an exceptional car sealant-- leaves a brilliant. extremely durable shine.
By the way, I use toothpaste, about 1 teaspoon per lens, and gently rub it in with a moist terry cloth. It takes about 1 minute per lens. Then the residue is washed off thoroughly and dried with a micro-fiber towel. The outcome is the same, in my view, as using the more expensive lens cleaning products.
By the way, congrats on our purchase and welcome to the forum.

Damn man I giggled like a little school girl when I found out I have this feature lol. It's been 2 years and I find out today, how do we clean this sensor? i see it, but it's blacked out. I might need to get it replaced..
I found only one circle plastic thing near my cluster..

I'm not sure, but I think there might be 2 light sensors. One on the dash and one on the back of the mirror. (I know there is one on the back of the mirror for the auto-dim feature but maybe it serves a dual purpose) I've messed around with trying to get my auto lights to turn on and didn't have luck with just the dash sensor.
Also this past weekend I noticed while trying to get through Chicago in daylight (traffic was horrible) Every time I went under an overpass while there was somebody in front of me, my lights would turn on and as soon as we got out from under the overpass they turned off. Another instance where I was going under an overpass and there was nobody in front of me my lights didn't turn on. So maybe the 2 sensors help keep the lights from turning on and off a lot during these driving conditions (with a normal driving speed that is, I was only going about 2-10 mph)

Mine come on when it's dark. ANy overpass i go under that's dark..they come on. If the sun gets low enough in the sky, they sometimes come on if i'm behind a tree. Pretty consistent really.
A lot of times in those low light situtations, i run with my parking lights on. I know i go against the grain here, but i love amber lights at dusk. Why i still have my amber corners...i prefer them.
