Seat problem cured!!!! New bolster installed.

Hey guys, I know a few of you were wondering how the new seat upgrade went, so here is a link to the pics.

http://users.ev1.net/~mre/Infiniti/newseat.htm

He basically replicated the old bolster and installed it with new leather. He removed the controls and put them in the front of the seat. For money reasons, I didn't have him make a mount, besides I can do that with the left over leather.
Also, I had him install a 1" HD foam pad at the bottom seat. As you can see in the pics, adds more to the driver's seat.

The difference is night and day. I no longer feel anything pressing into my leg, and it feels a thousand times better.
Also, with the new bottom padding, the seat feels alot more sturdy, plus I am raised a bit as well. He said the 1" new pad will break down some, but not much.

I am unsure what I want to do with the controls. I wanted to try to mimic the altima's controls on the side and see if that would work. If not then just make a mount for the controls using the old bolster's leather.

Let me know what you think, and if you are in the Houston area, I can send you the information of the guy who did it.

thanks

Very nice Silver04.....It looks great...are there any issues with the right bolster rubbing the console? Just wondered...that is one reason I have waited so long without doing mine. I still think some good strong sticky backed velcro strips would do a good job holding the controls on that harder plastic on the lower seat front....Thank you for posting the pics and review,,,,If you do secure the controls please post pics of that too....Thanks....GeeSpot

Re: Seat problem cured!!!! New bolster installed.

The seat rubs a little when it is raised up, but under normal driving there's about the same amount of space there, when the controls were installed.
For now, the controls are under the seat. I adjusted the position and set it memory, so I won't have to mess with it.

I figure the controls can wait a while, my leg is more important.

Thanks
mike

Infiniti should take note and provide a new seat bottom with relocated controls as a fix for people with seat discomfort syndrome.

Oh don't worry, I am being a pain in their side. I have two BBB complaints open with them, and currenlty emailing the ICA everyday.
They will take notice soon. If at all I want them to acknowledge this issue, and try to come up with a fix. Any pay for all of my expenses.

Re: Seat problem cured!!!! New bolster installed.

This is my 1st post here and I am happy to see that the seat problem isn't mine alone! I took delivery abouot a month ago andI was told by the dealer that Infiniti would not allow them to make any changes to the seat for "safety reasons". My experience with Infiniti Customer service wasn't much better, after waiting better than a week for a return call, was told that there would be no further chsnges to the seat ... Nice!! I expected better from an upscale auto manufacturer! I have a problem in that my vehicle is a lease and I can't permanently alter anything. Any help here as far as aftermarket seat manufacturers or non-permanent alterations are greatly appreciated. I have incurred better than $200 already in chiropractor bills, maybe a good lawyer would be interested??

Mike, the seat looks great! I'm glad you were able to get that fixed. I'm really thinking about getting mine done now, if I could find someone to do that good of job. If I may ask how much did he charge to do it?

Re: Seat problem cured!!!! New bolster installed.

Thanks Havok, I am enjoying the seat more and more.
The guy charged me 300. It sounds like alot, but it's about a half day job.
He had to cut out the old bracket, move the controls, template the new boster and install it. He also took the seat bottom and added the 1" of HD foam to it.
To me it's definitely worth it.

If you are thinking about or anyone in that matter, do it. You can probably find it for cheaper, but I had to get it done asap.

thanks
mike

It looks great, but how about a pic of the controls?
Where in Houston did you have this work done?
As you know, I also live in the area and am quite interested.

That is great! I'm glad that it worked out for you. But for some reason, the link does not work for me. Maybe the server is down? I also think that Infiniti should learn from this. But as we all know, they will not do anything further. Just hoping that they will change their minds....Anyways, glad it worked out for you.

Re: Seat problem cured!!!! New bolster installed.

The controls are just laying down in front of the seat for now.
I didn't have the time or extra money for him to do the custom holder. Plus I figure I'm handy enough to do it.
The good thing is that we have memory seats. So I set the seat into memory, and will tuck the controls under neath for now.

I'm thinking that I should be able to find a seat controller like works all of the G's 8-ways, but one that resembles a seat that can be mounted on the side, i.e. altima, maxima. That way it will be there were it's supposed to be.

Oh...also, the upholsterer is in alvin. I live in Pearland so it was an easy drive there. It's a day job so...not too bad.

thanks.

Re: Seat problem cured!!!! New bolster installed.

Thanks for the reply. $300 sounds cheap to me, sounds like he had to do quite a bit of work, and if you are now comforatable when driving it was money well spent.

I'm going to start looking around for someone to do this to mine, anyone know any good apholstery place in St. Louis?

Silver04,

How has your rebuilt seat bolster held up over the long term? Did you ever decide to attach the seat controller to the front of the seat? I'm considering your solution for an FX. I haven't purchased one yet. I rented one first to see if I'd have a problem with the seat and I did. Your solution appears to be the only 100% fix I've come across. I figure that even at double the price of what you paid for the upholstery job (which could be the case on the East Coast) it would be worth it and I could get an FX or a G coupe. I'm still not fully decided. Thank you for your input.
