Talking Matic-S > Matic-J

I recently changed my auto tranny oil about a month ago, and I must say that it's shifting very nicely...

I change my tranny fluid every 20~25k with Matic-J, but this was the first time with Matic-S.

Is Matic-S full synthetic? I know that the car will shift smoother when the fluid is changed whether it's matic-j or matic-GTR.. but this is different.. something is going on here..

I recommend all the AT guys to change out the tranny fluid to Matic-S...
Order 4 bottles online..
(and please.. no smart *** answers like "it's only 40% of your fluid" b.s.)

Nissan replaced Matic J with Matic S. You cannot get Matic J anymore, unless the dealer has old stock. They wont void any warranties if you use S. Alot of dealerships are even flushing/refilling with Valvoline ATF now.

^ I find that hard to believe that a dealer would be using Valvoline ATF, when Jatco tests the AFT of failed trannys to make sure it was using matic-s/J fluid.

OP the Matic-S fluid has been out for a while. Its a semi synthetic btw.

I've read a few threads here and elsewhere that some Nissan and Infiniti dealers have been using it. Its probably because it can be obtained cheaper and is compatiable according to Valvoline:

you even worked at the dealership?

I dont find this hard to believe at all. When you do a powertrain warranty, they dont test the fluid. Kinda like returning a TV at bestbuy. They just make sure its present and somewhat respectable you get your warranty claim. They ask the tech to normally drop the pan to see if anything crazy has gone wrong and for the most part if you done your services and they like you, your good

I just remember reading up around here that Jatco would do that. And everyone stresses to keep using Matic-S while in warranty.

^ Yep

Matic S is a semi synthetic/synthetic Fluid which is what Nissan Uses now. Its the new and improved Matic J.

Though the MSDS says 80% highly refined oil with 20% ATF additives in the US they might call it Synthetic but its like Castrol Syntec and M1, they are not 100% synthetics and only have like 10-20% of synthetic properties in them

Here is Matic-S MSDS http://www.nissanchemicals.com/datas...400972msds.pdf
