got to change the brakes again

So here we go again, 1 year and 20,000 miles and I got to change the brakes again.

I have an 04 and so far every year, here I am changing the brakes. At first the warranty covered them. So new oem rotors and pads, but since then I have been using aftermarket rotors purchased at everyhtingg35 and oem pads. It feels like stock and I love the brakes

I have been changing the brakes myself, so i figure if the wheel is coming off, then I might as well replace the rotor. Doest take that much extra time and is easier for me then having current ones resurfaced. the aftermarket rotors are 40 each along with 60 for the pads.

I am thinking about upgrading the brakes. Seems as a read the forum that most go with oem rotors and hawk pads. what are the differetn types of hawk pads? I love the way the stock brakes feels, is there an aftermarket set up that keep the feel the same but last a little longer? I dont care of it is alittel more expensive, but I am not interested in some of these expensive akeebono (sp), brembo set-ups.

Also, is it necessary to bleed/change the brake fluid? I have 103,000 and the brake pedal feels fine.

Thanks for your help

get the standard HPS branded hawk pads. They are made for the street and exactly what you need.

Bleed the brakes if they never did. Recommended time is every 2-3 years or after every track event. Moisture finds its way in there and does a LOT of bad things in time.

so the hps branded hawk pads are the way to go? How long do those pads last and do they the same feel and stopping power as stock?

I'm running brembo slotted and hawk HPS. I love the set up and have gone 20k miles with no issues. I will note that the hawk pads will squeak when cold. I was in the same boat as you and as soon as my warranty went I swapped over. The good news is the hawk pads produce less dust.

I also swapped in stainless steel lines and this firmed up the pedal a lot.

EVERYTHING IS ALL PENDING DRIVER.

stock oem pads can last 100k with one driver and 20k with another. People ride brakes, drive in city more. Panic stops.

Everyone stated hawks HPS to have similiar to stock. I will out on a limb here and say most people on this board with 03-04 non brembo brake setup are running HPS with some type of OEM-like rotor, or they are just running stock setup.

^If you can find the right deal. 05/06 would be the way to go.

Get the 05/06 setup if you can find one cheap. Just the fronts may be good enough as I think the rears are the same. I'm at 70k on my fronts, but they are starting to vibrate recently.
