even if you could feel the 40lbs (which i doubt and its more like 42lbs) that still doesnt explain how you would know what 3512 felt like in comparison with 3472. If your car does weigh 3472 you would have no way of knowing what 3512 felt like.

you are right though, 3512 was the weight of the 05 6MT coupe and 3472 is the 6MT sedan. The automatic sedan is 3468, automatic coupe is 3486.

you are right though, 3512 was the weight of the 05 6MT coupe and 3472 is the 6MT sedan. The automatic sedan is 3468, automatic coupe is 3486.

I can feel a 150-200lb passenger for sure.
Even 60 extra lb, but only if I'm cornering really hard (autoX) or drifting it.
I know I couldn't feel 60lb if it was evenly distributed throughout the car though. But throw 60-80lb of crap in the trunk and throw it through some tight corners, or throw the tail out, and you'll notice it right away.

yeah if all the weight is in one spot where its throwing the balance off or if its unsprung weight, but feeling the difference of 40lbs in the total weight of the car is just obsurd
i bet the front seats are pretty heavy, I remember when we were parting out my bro's sc300 the front seats were insanely heavy

As a rival, I keep close watch on e90post.com and others. I know more about that car then some of the owners. And just as a side note, it's nothing short of ASTONISHING that they used to spend $900-1100 on an aftermarket intercooler, when a bar and plate intercooler that would flow 1000+whp for a universal application is a mere $400. Goes to show how much they really know.
BTW. To really feel 40 pounds of additional weight you have to drive a 6 speed, not an automatic.
That's irrelevant in the case of my sedan because mine is right at 3400. I will drop it down more but I wont post how.

Delusional? You must think I drive the average G35 sedan on this forum that's all show and no go. I clearly remember topping 130+mph from a 75-80mph roll pulling away by 2 car lengths and about 4 car lengths with the 535i, and the 535i was not even worth the challenge. I already took close to 100 pounds off my car (and I still need some forged 19s to drop more) just by modding it and some of the weight savings cost me close to nothing, something that cant be easily achieved with a 335i except replacing the exhaust and installing test pipes.
As a rival, I keep close watch on e90post.com and others. I know more about that car then some of the owners. as for feeling 40lbs of weight, A. how is automatic relevant? B. if you read my sig you would know I don't have an automatic so I am not sure who that is directed at. if you think you can feel a 40lb difference in straight line acceleration, you ARE delusional, automatic or not...maybe on a motorcycle, not a in tubby "luxury" car. Maybe in autocross you can feel it, or if you are drifting around a parking lot like a moronic teenager.
you are one of these people who thinks their car is faster just because they are confident in it. No science to it, its faster because its mine, I'm such a good driver and my car is so awesome that nothing can beat me.
as far as you dropping the weight of your car 100lbs, I have 15.6lbs wheels so that's about 33lbs of unsprung weight less then stock. The oem 03-04 sedan midpipe, y-pipe and muffler also weigh a ton so I probably saved another 30 or so lbs on exhaust so my car is probably around 3330 or so.
do you have any 1/4 mile times to back up your illegal street races with people who you don't even know?

I think we are getting carried away here. Debating which car is "better" based on curb weight just to gain an extra 0.1 of a second is a little excessive don't you think?
I highly doubt the OP is interested in hard-core racing. I really think he's more interested in which model has less issues, better heated seats, better stereo, more reliable suspension components, better automatic trans, better brakes, etc.

I went from a LS1 WS-6 to the G Sedan... they're both fun to drive, but in different ways. I can't really put one above the other.
The G is fun to corner with, and is better on long trips, but the TA had such ridiculous raw power available at any RPM, and was absolutely insane to get sideways...
Anyway, to address your first question:
Don't get an 03. You might end up with one with the original, difficult to tune ECU. If you're building for performance, you don't want that.
Now, deciding between the 04 and an 05/06 is going to require you to decide exactly what you're after.
The 04 is lighter and cheaper, which means you're likely to get more in terms of performance easier.
If you're really serious about performance, look for one with no sunroof and as few options as possible. (Base models even have a manual passenger seat)
.. Also, if you're going strictly for a 6MT, the 05/06's frequently have a problem with oil consumption.
Granted, if you get one new enough with few enough miles, that might net you a free engine under warranty.
Now... on the other hand
05/06's are built a lot nicer on the inside. The base exterior is much better looking (though the 03/04 looks are easily fixed with far more available options)
Also, if you're considering a AT, the shift logic is much improved... though it is possible to get an 04 with the 05/06 shift logic, provided it was a later "04.5" model.
05/06 also has nicer looking taillights, of course, that can be swapped over on an older one.
One of the big bugs on the 03/04 is the radio/ac unit (all controls are built onto one board, that fails)
That can be taken care of with a (somewhat expensive) double-din kit, but again, that's a little more money to spend.
BTW, on a completely side point...
One of my friends is a big Subaru fan, so I know well the "Saabaru" you mentioned... I would actually rock one of those, they're pretty sweet when built
