SAD DAY GUYS I feel like SH*T
SAD DAY GUYS I feel like SH*T
So today was career day at the University and i barely got 10 of my resumes out there as a mech. engineer so already I dont think that internship is coming.
Found a ticket on my Acura as i was leaving the University for $53 and went to ask why and found out that $53 was actually $237 all because my parking permit wasn't active even though i bought it a while back!
AND NOW I FINALLY GET TO THE STEALERSHIP WHICH JUST CHARGED ME $180 FOR NEW BELTS just to find out that my transmission is SH*T!!!!!!!! THEY QUOTED ME $3500 for parts and labor!
I barely got the car home because they drained the old tranny fluid the car cant catch gears!
ON TOP OF THAT Ill never be able to afford that kind of fix!!!!!
A used transmission and labor are gonna run me at least $1200
I cant even pay the parking tickets! I still owe payments on tuition!
I STILL HAVE LOANS!!! FML FML FML
On top of that i lost my job because my GPA slipped below a 2.75
IDK what to do? I think im just gonna sell the car and hopefully get back on my feet! any advice?

Alrighty then, here goes...
- Resumes at a career day are standard fare. Got the contact info? Know the names of the companies? Bone up on ALL OF THEM. Call them, be persistent, get yourself stuck in their heads!
- Tickets suck, but they happen. Would you rather have been towed? I thought not.
- This is a 2 parter:
a.) Don't go to the dealership for belts.
b.) Don't go to the dealership for tranny work. Find an independent mechanic that knows your car. It will be pricey, but much cheaper. Remember this. DEALERSHIPS ARE FOR LAZY PEOPLE THAT KNOW NOTHING ABOUT CARS.
- They didn't refill your transmission fluid? Call the dealership and call Acura of America. You might've just gotten yourself a free transmission.
- Call parents, grandparents, siblings, anyone for some help to pay the tickets and the tuition. If they say no, don't hold a grudge. Move on to the next person.
***CONCLUSION: If your car is paid off, keep it. If you owe on it, get rid of it.
Take this advice from someone who got screwed left and right from internships, jobs, cars getting towed, etc, etc, etc, and fought for his right to spend MASSIVE AMOUNTS OF MONEY for a piece of paper saying I'm educated. It's not easy, and if it is, it's probably not worth it.

Wow, thanks for this tip
dude I feel you on the whole school/internships stuff, we just had our fair here too and all the recruiters seem more worried about hiring full time people that are graduating. But I still gave out resumes just to get my name in their system. My dad was telling me that its good to get your resumes to the human resources guys to get on record, but what you really have to do is work contacts that you might have with people that actually work within the company, as they might have a better in (whether through recommendations or an "unofficial" internship). So you might wanna try that.
I had to have my clutch replaced last semester, on top of school loans, being out of state, and a $650 dollar parking permit. But I've taken out some "family loans" and used part of my insurance check from a wreck I had which landed me in the G. So stay motivated and hang in there.
It's hard for me to help or say anything in regards to the car, but do whatevers best for YOUR situation...and look forward to bigger and better things upon graduation.
ps- my engineering gpa isn't any better
