No clue!

Was driving at about 120kmph and prior to that I felt the car pulling to right. So as I was doing 120 I felt it pull more, so I turned down "take your shirt off - tpain" on the radio and then I heard the tire dying. Then I heard the sound when you have a flat.

Little did I know. Pulled over cuz I thought I could drive home and saw the tire torn. Just waited for AAA to tow the car to the garage. I did not want to change the rim to my stock 17" spare which has not been used in 4 yrs.

Causes:

1. Could have been something that stuck in the sidewall.
2. Also the damn meguiars tire shine I apply every week could have contributed to weakening the compound on the side wall.

Changed the rear tires today for new PS3s. Going to pick up the car now.

Rim survived cuz I drove at about 20-40kmph and then pulled over.

Seriously! Rolling on Michelin PS2's right now and tread is getting low. Probably going to replace them with Micheline Pilot A/S if I plan to keep my Volks until I sell the car, otherwise probably replace with some cheap Falkens. Michelin PS2 is the best tire I've ever used, but it's just not worth the cost for how I drive (slow and tame).

Thanks all! Yes they PS3s are very nice but pricey.... wife gave me flack for such expensive tires :S... Im just glad I was driving avg speed when it gave way... plus as I felt the car pulling...

I have no idea what would have happened if it was the front tire... anyways front tires are almost 40000 kms old but I will only replace them in Dec.

Megs Tire shine would not disintegrate the tire....neither would any reputable brand of tireshine.

How old was the tire? What was the PSI the tire was at when it blew? Looks like the rim was eating at the tire due to the clean cut.

+1 tire shine did not cause this problem. The tire was driven flat or extremely low on air for quite some time to cause that kind of damage. Do you have tpms sensors?

I think it was because you were listening to T-pain...lol. j/k. Glad you're okay man, thankfully it wasn't the front tire.

Another possible cause could be stretched tires. I do not recall seeing anything about tire and rim size, so I have no idea if that's a possibility.
