Re: Extended Warranty: Is it worth it?
Generally you can buy a third party extended warranty for any car as long as it is under 5 years old and 50,000 miles. depending on your deductable, you can get a warranty for a very cheap price

Re: Extended Warranty: Is it worth it?
Additionally, manufacturer waranty usually offer the least coverage at the highest prices. It's usually a named-component warranty.. only what's listed is covered.
Third party is the way to go... State Farm and IWS (sold through credit unions), are two of the best in providing the most coverage. They offer named-component as well as the more comprehensive named-exclusion, they list what isn't covered, and EVERYTHING else is.

Re: Extended Warranty: Is it worth it?
This is good info...I have my home and auto insurance with state farm. I will call to compare warranties. I would be getting the warranty mostly for electronic type issues-I feel pretty confident in the drivetrain to make it to 100,000+ miles.

Re: Extended Warranty: Is it worth it?
I"m not sure what chinee is refering too... but the manufacturer warranty is always in my experience (11 years, auto dealership Service Manager) the most inclusive... Some of the aftermarket warranties, i.e. Western General, GE Capital, First Extended...etc... are all good choices too. Either way the manufacturer warranty is always the best way to go, especially since the dealership controls adminastration - most time...

Also - every warranty is named component coverage...

Named component coverage is just that... only covers what is named in the warranty documents.
Named-exclusion covers EVERYTHING but those components named in the warranty docs. This type really does exist. I've sold both types.. offered by the same company.
BLICX... no offense intended, but if the only warranties you've run into are those sold at the dealerships, I'm not surprised that you're not familiar with named-excusion coverage. They're not as profitable as named-component; hence dealers don't prefer them.

Re: Extended Warranty: Is it worth it?
I don't know, my last POS Mazda cost me well over $7000 in repair bills 2 years post-warranty. I know Infiniti is on top of charts when it comes to reliability and service, but I don't want to take a chance. A tranny failure after warranty expires or if the NAV drops dead one day..... it would cost well over $4k to fix them. I would recover some of the cost if I sell the car early as well. All in all like others said, it's a insurance. I plan to keep my car for awhile so... better safe than sorry.

Re: Extended Warranty: Is it worth it?
It's not bumper-to-bumper... it's everything BUT what's named on their exclusion list. No warranty ever covers enough, but the named-exclusion typically offers more comprehensive coverage.

IMO extended car warranties are rip-offs; I've always felt if I needed one for a particular car, I shouldn't/wouldn't buy the car. Consumer reports agrees (excerpt from website linked below), "In our judgment, extended warranties aren't worth the money, especially if you buy a reliable car."

Well, If you keep your car many years after the b2b & pwrtrain warranty expires, it is worth it. Imagine paying just a $25 or $50 deductible instead of $400 or $900 or whatever the cost of the repair. Even if it is a per item ded., vs a per visit ded., you still save big. Come on, you love to drive these cars hard every once in awhile--things are likely to break just because. I will definitely get an ext. warr.
