Winter Tires

Its getting close to that time where I will be putting winter tires on my G. I was given 4 16" snow tires so all I need now is 4 16" steel wheels. My local Infiniti dealer is telling me that there are problems putting 16" wheels on because they rub against the calipers.

Has anyone has personal experience putting 16" steel wheels on?

Re: Winter Tires

That's funny, all the dealerships here in the GTA (Toronto) are offering 16 inch steel rims with all their winter tire packages. So I don't think it's an issue.

Re: Winter Tires

Get a decent set of wheels man! Steel Wheels on a G ?! You paid so much for your car, you got a FREE set of tires and you wanna put em on steel wheels? :-(

Re: Winter Tires

But steels add weight and look bad :-( but then again, you're better off getting steels than getting cheap alloys since most of the cheaper stuff aren't made very well and the weight distribuation is off so it will screw the suspension in the long run...

I guess just take it to a tire dealer like Tire Depot or Active Green + Ross and have check to see if steels will fit.

What winter tires are you putting on?

Re: Winter Tires

Don't forget about the stock 16" alloy wheels which came with the base/cloth model. I sold mine, and I've seen others on EBay. I'm starting to regret that decision and think a set of 215 width tires on those wheels would be the best winter tire option. I've got a set of 235/45 Blizzaks on 17 stock wheels and I think they're too wide. I have to load 200lbs of sand into the trunk to get the desired snow-mobile handling (and no, it isn't because I'm a 300 lb lard-*** - more like 200 lbs ;-) )

Re: Winter Tires

I've got 4 Goodyear 225/60R 16s that were given to me. I priced 16" steel wheels and I can get them for $55 CDN a piece.

I am really not too concerned about the looks of steel wheels. I agree that they will look like crap, but then again it is almost impossible to keep the car itself clean during the winter months. The roads are constantly covered with salt which ends up making my black G turn white.

I've confirmed with two other Infiniti dealers that 16" steel wheels will fit no problem.

I sure wish I lived in the south so I didn't have to worry about this!!!

Re: Winter Tires

I would say 235's are way too wide for winter tires, seems like they would have a tendency to float vs. cut through. We have 205's, they are really good in the snow/ice/slop

Re: Winter Tires

I would rather have 205s or 215s, but the 225s were given to me....so I can't complain much.

Re: Winter Tires

I dont really see the point in buying an expensive set of wheels and have them exposed to salt and sand during the winter months. I agree that steel wheels won't look very good, but its better than having my nice wheels get all pitted and corrided.
