To remote start or not? That is the Question.

I live in Ohio, I hate being cold (lived in AZ for 7 yrs.) I am considering getting a remote start installed. I shied away last winter because of concerns with losing the security w/ the chip that prevents the car from being started unless it is in the car. I live in a relatively safe area of Columbus, Ohio, so odds are my car will probably not be stolen. What are your thoughts?

Thanks,

g4ian

Hmm..for me the remote start would not be an option. Because my car is leased I'm always wary of any problems down the road with warranty etc. I'm in Chicago and it's bloody freezing here, but I can put up with that knowing the car is safe.

I was just at my local dealer today and i asked them about remote start on the 05 sedans w/ the intelligent key system. They said they dont reccomend it and they try to talk people out of them on the 04s as well. He rattled off something about the security system of the G having issues allowing the remote start to circumvent the whole deal. Dunno personally, but it's still something im interested in knowing more about

Re: To remote start or not? That is the Question.

Actually, having remote start in conjunction w/ an aftermarket alarm will not make the vehicle any easier to steal. For anyone to get into the car and drive off w/ the car will not work w/o the key being in the ignition switch to shut down the remote start feature. Once the brake pedal is depressed w/o the key being in the ignition, the remote start feature will automatically shut off.

I have remote paging systems on all of my cars and there is no problem whatsoever as long as the alarm is installed correctly.

Actually, the problems he was referring to has more to do with the security features already on the car, such as velet key and what not. specific problems he mentioned were incidents like the car will just die for no reason, fail to start on other days. Like i said, not having one on my own car i cant really say for sure, im just relaying with the dealer told me.

Re: To remote start or not? That is the Question.

i have Python Responder 881XP installed on my car. have had on for about a year. it works in conjunction with the security system already on the car, and does more things. allows you to start/stop engine and roll up/down windows (front only if you don't have a premium package, or all 4 if you do). also shows you car status, which zones are triggered, and gives you feedback on any action you take.

it is the best pleasure money i spent on my car (kind of redundant...). get it. find a good store to install it. make sure they worked on G35 before - although a shop i went to (in Memphis, Tennessee - don't live there now, thank dog) never worked on G35 before, so they game a pretty awesome discount. had the alarm installed and 2 remotes for like $700. oh, and they'll ask for a copy of your key (with a chip) - you can give them the metal key with plastic top but no Infiniti emblem - it'll work. they put it in a module somewhere to let G35's alarm system know that it's ok to turn off and start the engine. otherwise alarm goes off.

anyways, email me at iv AT codeflux DOT com if you want more info. refer to this forum, please.

Re: To remote start or not? That is the Question.

From what I was told, the remote start systems will not work with the intelligent key system. So with a 05's it is not an option at this time. I'm sure some remote start company will come up with something in the future but I don't think it can be done at this time.

G35Lin,

Do you also have the Python Responder 881XP ? If not-what did you go with and how much?

Thanks,

Just move to Houston. It's still in the 90s during the daytime.
No need to warm the car up. It was 78 degrees this morning at
5:30 am. My home A/C is still draining my pocket of money.
