06 sedan: aluminum center dash kit turning yellowish, but why?
Mine isn't turning yellow (yet) and I have an 06 with 82k miles, no smoke. Maybe it has something to do with sun light? Ever leave your sun roof cover open all day every day? I always close mine if I'm not in the car... idk, just a thought.
Most of mine yellowed as well. I had it replaced about 9 months ago under warranty with no signs of it returning yet. I do not smoke. The car is in the garage when I am home and covered from the sun all expect for about 2 hours at work. Only time the sunroof cover is open is when the sunroof is open and that is not too often. The dealer was unaware of the cause so I mentioned it was believed to be the adhesive but they never gave me a hard time about replacing them.
The parts where mine turned yellow are the spots where the different sections meet. If it was a product I was using, I would think it would have distorted all the pieces including the trim on the door. Essentially, wherever there was a crack is where the yellowing began.
Mine is also garaged, and sunroof cover closed when not in car. It's not any cleaning product...because I don't clean my car
(beleive it or not, it stays clean anyway)
I'm surprised you guys are just hearing of this now. A year ago, this was a common issue and plenty of guys were familiar with it.

Wow, I've always wondered about the yellow "stain" above my ashtray. It pisses me off since I've never smoked in my life. So I can just take it to the stealership and get the piece replaced?
If you are under warranty, you should not have much of an issue. Of course, that depends on your dealer. If you are out of warranty (4yr or 60k miles) then I doubt they will do it at no cost unless they go for a goodwill repair.
Well, the console is brushed aluminum with clear coat ontop so you can get some polish and see if you can polish it a bit, if it will remove the yellowing. It might just be the clear yellowing from heat or something.
I tried ordering a new piece based off of the parts listed on Mustang5L5's invoice, but apparently they listed the wrong ones. Oh well, it used to bother me, but I really don't even notice it anymore.
You must have a more understanding dealer than I do. I had to argue with them to get my seized hood hinges covered under the Elite warranty. They probably don't like me because I don't spend any money there. The only business they get from me is warranty work.
Just a note. Went to the dealer to have the last piece of the yellowed trim replaced, which was just the part on top of the power supply/cigarette lighter. Turns out they ordered the entire radio and shifter pieces but not the one I needed. I decided to use steel wool #0000 and some metal polish. I dipped a small piece of the sw into the polish and moderately went side to side. Wiped it down then used a microfiber to polish again and cleaned up the excess.
I had previously used metal polish after cleaning it with no results. After the steel wool, there is no yellowing left. Those out of warranty could pop the yellowing pieces out and try this method on their own avail. I do not smoke and neither does anyone in my car.
