didnt know them at the time (and wasnt spending as much on the car in the early days anyway)...

From what I have ascertained about stock converter vs high stall, it's not cost beneficial for me (even less so than the cams/headers, for me anyway).

Mods that I would definitely suggest to any VQDE (for dd, spirited street and moderate track) is plenum spacer, hfc, decent high flow exhaust and shorter fd... anything beyond that becomes less bang for buck and only address the minor gains available beyond what I listed (a decent lsd for those with open diff is a good decision too)... but I realize you know your stuff Johnathan... I mention it more in general (and for others that may benefit).

7500 is as high as I'm comfortable with (the valve springs, rod bolts and oil pump upgrades will/should keep it safe - beyond 7500 though, who knows)... not sure anything higher would benefit anyway.

I'm in nazifornia - good thing the liberals dont believe in death penalty, otherwise I'm sure they'd call for death by injection if caught with long tube headers

I'd love to have 'em though.

^^^ there were gains, just not enough to be worth the expense (or time/effort if you DIY)... just my opinion... but I wouldn't have known if I hadn't done it (since no one else was doing it back then, without full build)...

people swapping VQs into spec v's seem to be making a lot of power, wonder what they are doing differently

I have a hunch ithey are making that kind of power because of the intake manifold.

I used to have a 02 maxima and driving that compared to a stock 03z personally it felt faster.

Also w a gab y pipe mid pipe

I would be neck to neck w hrs.

I could be wrong.

Heck I am looking for a new manifold for my car. Thinking about a kentic ssv or that new custom one someone is making over at my350z.

I'm w ocg35. Everyone is telling me to get long tubes but I'm scared to get caught

yeah 02-03 6 speed maximas pretty quick. a guy in texas runs like 13.7@102 with just basic bolt ons and he keeps telling me that he pulls on cars that he has no business pulling on..lol.

but in stock form they dont make as much power as g/z's they are just lighter and have less parasitic loss because they are fwd.

as for the long tubes, I guess in cali the cops actually care about that stuff and look under your hood and under your car.

idk you could weld fake cats around the outside, and as long as you have nonfoulers your CEL(or do we have SES?) light shouldn't go off. In NY no CEL/SES is good enough to pass inspection but they probably sniff over in cali..lol

also you guys have to deal with 91 octane..

yeah, a lot of people are surprised on how fast they are with little mods,
you are correct stock it doesnt feel good at all, but the car has similar issue to us,
such as the stock air box is best, but we just drilled holes on he top to help get more air, basically turning it in to our air box,
and turns out the stock muffler on that make the most power out of everything,

When I ran full exhaust i lost a lot of low and mid end, but by switching back to stock the car makes more power everywhere except for around 6400-6600 by like 1-2 hp, so crazy that the stock stuff makes so much power...

Im in the bay but i know people that have been jacked in socal,
I heard they have like SMOG check points like DUI, they do visuals and also have a portable sniffer on hand ready to screw you in the but( no pun intended)

I think welding the fake cats is a good idea, but a lot of work to make something like look it, im too lazy hahah

Install resonated cats, they look like cats enough for a cop not to notice.
