How are your painted sills holding up (a year or so on)
Hi,
I’m new…
Hope you are all well… and stuff.
Yes, have searched forum, and seen there is a lot of threads on painting the black front, back and side sills.. and many photos of cars that have freshly painted sills- looking great.
But I have a slightly different question:
Those of you that have done it a while back, 6months-2 years etc. Is it still looking great?... or does it chip, come off etc. (More so than the other panels on the car)
I would be getting it done by a professional btw.
Thanks.

I painted mine with a spray gun and OEM paint at home. My sills are holding up fine after 3 years. Prep is the key. It takes a lot of prep, especially if the sills have been exposed to the elements for an extended period prior to paint. Since the sills and rear really aren't impacted by road debris, the paint should last. If you paint the front sill, I could see that chipping and delaminating pretty easily. I would recommend not using direct spray from a hand-held carwash wand on any sills. You can use light water pressure, but I'd handwash.

Thanks DaveB, yeah I would definately be wanting to do the front sill as well as sides and back...
I see your point about the front getting chipped, but I would of thought the side sills would of caught a fair amount of road debris and stuff flicked off by wheels as well...?
(I am using the correct term they are called 'sills' arn't they?)
Awesome tip about not using the high pressure spray too!
Thanks!

Anyone else out there that has painted front sills?... how is it looking after longish term driving?

Mine are (were) painted.
I still have my sides, they're holding up great. The front has been replaced with an aftermarket bumper. However, before it was, it was holding up exceptionally well (I think better than stock paint to be honest)
One spot that chipped on the sides was where it tucks around inside the wheel well.
You can see the area I'm talking about in this (really old) pic right after I had them done.
See where the screw holds right on the front of the side skirt? That's chipped now.
But I live on a dirt road with a lot of rock, so that area catches it REALLY rough.
The sides are still in really good shape on the part that faces out though.
If I was really concerned with it, I could easily trim a piece of black vinyl to cover the entire wheel well part of the skirt, but it's really not that noticeable anyway.
Oh and BTW, mine were painted (professionally) 16 months ago.
