I don't know if this will work for the 1st Gen but you can always try it. I have a 2nd Gen so this worked for me. let me know if this work for you.

You have to turn the car on without starting (two taps of the button while not holding down the clutch or brake). Wait for the airbag light to go out and quickly turn the car off before it starts blinking (I know it's almost immediate but try to do this). Repeat about 5 times total, then start the car and see what happens.

^^ is correct but you only have to do it 4 times on the first gens. However if you reset the light and it comes back on in a week or 2 you have an issue with the airbags and I would highly suggest you get them looked at.

Yep the airbg reset procedure will turn it off.

Also why aren't you wearing your seatbelt? I cant think of a reason why not to wear it lol.

I suspect you unplugged the airbag connector while changing the filter, without disconnecting the battery..

lol, you know there was an accident in a ford explorer the person was sleeping with the chair all the way down(passenger seat) and the seat belt did not hold her in she just slipped out underneath.

Well, at least your still in the seat belt. My Dad never wears one and every time he comes in my car i make him wear it or i don't move. He believes that it don't work. He was in an accident 6 months ago and he was not wearing it on the freeway.

Guy at work is one of those that think they don't work. He won't ride in my car when we go to lunch because I force him to put it on. He takes his own car...and it's a convertible.

His thoughts are on a frontal accident he has the airbag...and if something serious happens he would rather be ejected.

I was in a rollover. I had my seat belt on and stayed put. The suction cupped navi in my friends car did not however. I lost two teeth because of it. as a result, I buy my car with oem navi to avoid suction mounts and keep my interior free of anything. You guys that run front plates on your dash....ugh that would scare me in a rollover.

^ Heh the airbag was never made to hold you in, it only takes one bad experience to get hurt or worse :eek to start wearing if your not already lol

Damn, thats bad lol. And now that you said that people with plates on there windshields do sound pretty dumb now ha.
