Drag Racing a Loaner (long)
Re: Drag Racing a Loaner (long)
Dude, you're frickin' nuts. I hope I never come up against you driving around Chicago. That was one of the most hilarious things I've seen. Loved the photos.

I had to register to tell you how much I laughed!
In ten years of reading and posting to automotive forums, this is beyond a doubt one of the best stories I have ever read.
Next time my Z is in the shop I'm getting a loaner and taking it autocrossing!

Re: Drag Racing a Loaner (long)
Being a G35x owner yourself ChicagoX, how would you compare the G35 loaner to your X. What is faster or slower with wheel spin. Does your X launch better with the AWD. Is the suspension on the X firmer/stiffer than the standard G?

Art:
This loaner was head-and-shoulders above the last loaner I drove. The review I wrote on the last loaner can be seen here:
https://g35driver.com/forums/showfla...&part=all&vc=1
This loaner was tighter and faster than the last one, and even the Goodyear GS-A rubber was better than the Turanzas.
The biggest surprise was the VDC........MUCH less intrusive when applied, as well as having a higher threshold of engagement in a straight line.
The loaner felt much lighter than my X, part of that feeling attributed to the lighter steering effort. It was also noticably softer sprung than the X car, with increased body lean around corners.
The launch of the 2WD car was more challenging than the AWD sister. Instead of brake-torquing both feet to the floor and side-stepping the brake to launch, the loaner required a more gradual throttle application to keep the tires from spinning. In contrast, the X leaves the line with little drama even using the most ham-fisted launch techniques.

Re: Drag Racing a Loaner (long)
How about times? Was the 2WD G35 faster than the AWD G35x? Or was the weight difference over come with the easier launching abilities of the AWD?

Re: Drag Racing a Loaner (long)
It took me a while to find the post, but here is my best time to date w/ AWD:
My all-stock (embarrassingly so) G35X turned a halfway-decent time...considering the extra 300# or so......
Best run:
R/T: .537
ET: 14.73
MPH: 94.22
that was with a 2.19 60' time and run in MM mode
My 3 previous runs (full auto) were all 14.81 @ 93.74, 93.45, 93.62 MPH
All 60' were 2.20, and the times through half track were the same to the thousandths of a second!!! Talk about a monster bracket racer!!!!
So I guess that "X" is still a wee bit faster overall, with the lion's share of the gain coming at the front end of the track.

Re: Drag Racing a Loaner (long)
That's awesome, reminds me of when Hertz used to rent Shelby Mustangs and customers would take them straight to the track. Has anyone heard the story a few months ago where someone rented a Neon and installed a makeshift NOS system? I'll try to find a link. Too funny.

Re: Drag Racing a Loaner (long)
Funny thing is, some of the most valuable Shelby Mustangs in existance today are those gold on black Hertz specials. I guess not too many survived. I heard many came back to Hertz with sets of bolt holes in the floor from where people bolted in roll bars for weekend events.
