Tire Pressure sensor. Sensitive????

This morning while driving my car their were no warning lights.
But, we had a front move through this afternoon and when I left from work the temp had dropped probably 15 degrees or so. When I started driving in the parking garage my TPS went off and stayed on.
I guess I need to inflate my tires due to the cold air causeing low pressue. Is that correct.

I have a 04 sedan with sport rims and tires, anyone know the needed pressure off hand.

thanks
mike.

Re: Tire Pressure sensor. Sensitive????

The other morning mine went off also. 28 degrees here in MA. So I got out and checked tire pressure... 26 psi cold. I checked the pressure with hot tires... 30 psi exactly. The sticker on my 04 6MT calls for 30. I bumped the hot pressure up to 32 psi. 28 degrees again this morning and no tire warning.

Re: Tire Pressure sensor. Sensitive????

Sweet thanks guys.

I haven't been able to add more air yet...been raining hard here in Houston. It will let up today and then I'll do it.

I guess i'll do 30 - 32......just in case it gets warm again.

thanks
mike

Re: Tire Pressure sensor. Sensitive????

The FSM quotes the following for 2004 models.

Pressure at which visible and audible warning are activated:

Coupe: 28 psi
Sedan: 24 psi

There is no mention of a warning function for an over-pressure condition.

The reason, of course, that many people are getting the warning light is the drop in outside ambient temperature. How much does temperature affect tire pressure, you ask? A quick calculation shows that a tire a 70-degF will lose 5 psi if cooled down to 10-degF.

Re: Tire Pressure sensor. Sensitive????

When I picked my car up at the dealership the ride was harsh. It was about 100 miles before I got the chance to check the tire pressure using a digital gauge. They were at 35psi. Infiniti calls for 30. My butt seems to agree with them. Thirty gives me a good cornering without feeling every tar strip on the highway. Pay attention to your tire wear. If your tires seem to wear more in the centers, you are running too much air. Wear on the outer edges means the tires are too soft. This is only true if your alignment is good. Misalignment is a
whole different story .

Re: Tire Pressure sensor. Sensitive????

Mine sensor works fine. Just yesterday went on - I had 28psi in one tire (coupe) - pumped up all to 35 and the light is gone. Very useful!

Re: Tire Pressure sensor. Sensitive????

One of the questions was what was the pressure supposed to be. In case you weren't aware, the manufacturer recomended tire pressure is in the driver's door jamb. They've been that way for years.

Re: Tire Pressure sensor. Sensitive????

I think mine is a little too sensitive. It went off the other day but all 4 tires were right around 35 psi. I pumped them up to like 40 then dropped them back down to 35 psi. The light went off minutes later. I fooled it!

Re: Tire Pressure sensor. Sensitive????

Does anyone know if the TPS came with the 2003.0 models? Or if it was first introduced in the 2003.5 or 2004 ones?

Thanks
