Exclamation just replaced tranny a day ago having same problem

my tranny had 169k wen i lost 4th and 5th gear so i started leaving it in 3rd with my tiptronic got 2 diff opinions to find out it was toast. so i got it replaced with a used tranny that had 106k and now still having same problems does anyone know what could be causing this?

i think it might have to get the TCM reset or reflashed to get rid of the problem but im not quite sure

I think it's time to trade in your car or sell it!

Not sure which one you drove cause I know our cars don't shift until you shift it yourself because I drive tip 70 percent of the time and its never once shifted for me.

its a 5A/T i leave it in 3rd with the tiptronic so wen i stop at a light it shifts from 1st,2nd,3rd and stays in 3rd if i leave it in regular drive it shift from 1st,2nd,3rd smooth then 4th gear will slips a bit over 2000 rpm but wen it is in 5th just revs up and the speed stays the same

ps im not gonna give up on my car and just sell it aint nothing else wrong with it but this ive had it for 4 years now

MY GOD! The ignorance about the 5AT astounds me!

Ok,
pre-04.5 tip mode:

Select a gear (e.g. [3]) From a stop, the car will shift from 1st to 2nd and then to 3rd, and will then STAY in 3rd. (or whatever gear you select)
If you go too fast for the gear, it will simply bounce off the rev limiter.
If you come to a stop, the car will shift back down to a lower gear to prevent stalling, but the "selector" on the dash will keep displaying the gear you previously selected.
If you don't select a different gear, when you start moving again, the car will shift exactly the same as before, going through gears until it reaches the gear displayed on the dash, and no higher.
If you are already rolling (e.g. [3] @ 35MPH) and you floor it to Wide Open Throttle, the car will downshift back into a lower gear (1st, 2nd, etc... depending on speed and the gear you're in)

04.5 and up tip-mode:

While rolling, select a gear (e.g. [3]) the car will shift into that gear and stay there.
If you go too fast for the gear, it will simply bounce off the rev limiter.
If you come to a stop, the car will automatically switch back to [1] so as not to stall.
If you are already rolling (e.g. [3] @ 35MPH) and you floor it to Wide Open Throttle, the car will NOT downshift back into a lower gear. It will stay in the gear you selected and lug in that gear (just like a manual)
The only time it will downshift is at a very low speed (or a standstill) or if you manually downshift with the gear selector.

Here's a key difference:
If you are already rolling (e.g. [3] @ 35MPH) and you floor it to Wide Open Throttle, the car will NOT downshift back into a lower gear. It will stay in the gear you selected and lug in that gear (just like a manual)
The only time it will downshift is at a very low speed (or a standstill) or if you manually downshift with the gear selector.
Also, this only applies to gears 3-5. If you put it in tip-[2] and launch @ WOT, the car will still do a 2nd gear start.
you cannot select gears from a stop. You can only upshift once the speed is matched with the gear so that car wont die.

If your at a stop it will be in [1] no matter what. It will bounce on the limiter and once in 2nd or 3rd 4th 5th it will not downshift if you put your foot to the floor.

Only time it will shift for you is when the car is going near stall rpm, then it will downshift.

I thought we tested a 2nd gear start in your car?

In any case, it will let you select any gear in the pre-04.5
That doesn't mean it will start in that gear. It always starts in 1st.

It will bounce on the limiter and once in 2nd or 3rd 4th 5th it will not downshift if you put your foot to the floor.

Only time it will shift for you is when the car is going near stall rpm, then it will downshift.
Yeah, I said that.
