Thumbs up New '05 G35x owner

Hello everyone,
About 2 weeks ago I have bought a 2005 g35x with 80K miles,
and loving this car , very much, it already been in a snow storm once on my clock and handled very good ....

I have to tell you, i have never looked at infiniti before thinking it was a over priced Nissan but now i love it.

I have no service records other than oil change sticker on windshield saying its time for new oil. what over services should I do to the car,,,, I'm driving about 20K per year and just want to prevent as much down time as possible.

I will be getting 4 new tires very soon as current are almost 3-4/32 all around.....

I do have a slight vibration in steering wheel on 70-80 mph ... but will see if new tires/with proper balance will have fix this.....

also, steering wheel is not straight (may be 3/8inch to the right) and car is pulling little bit to the right on the highway . so I'm guessing alignment is a must with new tires,,,, and do i have to check if any control arms are bent in front?

what fluids should be changed at 80K? or may be suspension parts replaced at this time .?

Thank you!

The steering wheel vibration will probably go away with new tires. And alignment should be done to get rid of the mis-aligned steering wheel.

As far as suspension goes. I would have it looked at for the compression rods. As far as the fluids, if they have never been done, i'm sure most of them could be changed.

You should post pics!

We got our 05 x's within days of each other! And your white one is gorgeous looking I must say. Mine is DG. Looks cleaner in the slush!

If you get rattles over low speed bumps or vibes at high speed, or both, check here, the answers are available.

I think you are very smart to focus on maintenance issues rather than mods . . . and one more for you in the Spring, get a Krown rustproofing done. It will add years to your ride. I have had to "retire" 2 3.0 litre infinitis so far (both over 300,000 kms) and always because of the body, NEVER the engine. Maintain the engine with regular oil changes, and the body with rustproofing every 2 years. I was able to sell my I35 because the body was perfect at 260K kms - thanks to rustproofing.

Hey if the tires and alignment dont get rid of the shimmy but fix everything else there is the possibility of the very early signs of a wheel bearing and hub breaking down . The vibration with mine was so fine in the beginning you could only tell by looking at the rearview mirror ,,,,everything was blurry at 70 80 mph as time went on I could barely detect a low pitch growl that matched frequency with the speed of the motor ,,, as time went on the noise was noticeable at all speeds and very loud ,,,,,,,early on my mechanic was sure it was the front diff however I was not convinced and let it go for a month or so at which time he took it for another spin and said it was the wheel bearing right away ,,,the repair for me was 800 bucks ,,,,,,,,,this is just a FYI message you could spend thousands trying to get rid of a shimmy and still have it so I thought my story was pertinant reagrding front end issues

Take care

Thanks, i do not have any sounds... yet ,,, so i hope new tires with alignments and road force balance will fix it... i do see alot of topics here about wheel bearings so i guess they are common problems,,,,

Welcome, I like seeing another new X.

I would have all the fluids changed just in case (better safe than sorry). That includes engine oil, engine coolant, power steering fluid, transmission fluid, brake fluid, and differential fluid. It's a lot but it'll pay off. Alignment and wheel balance should fix the vibration, it did wonders for mine a few months ago.

If you're unsure of what to do, you can bring it to an Infiniti dealership and have it checked very thoroughly for $50. This would be my best suggestion. They can tell you if your bearings and compression rod bushings are worn.

Welcome and congrats on your G!

Your lucky then, I am looking for a white one but I am having a hard time finding one, I might have to settle on a desert platinum.
