Tail Light Mod

So I drive a 2006 OB G35. I was thinking about painting my tail lights. However living in CA cops are super strict so I wanted to make it legal. I think (as far as I have read) my idea would make it legal. I want to make the blinker at the top a running/parking light. Then use a relay to either make just the outside LED circle as my blinker or both LED circles as my blinkers. so ultimately my LED circles would do all the work for everything. Running/parking lights, brake lights, blinker. Then I would remove the bulb from the little outside reflector. Then I would paint the tail lights black except for the LED circles and the reverse light. Then all the required lights stayed there required colors. :] post what you think

Sounds like something similar to what Mike (OCG35) did. Your paint job would be different but his leds blink as turn signals.

Tim (ttrank) also has blinking leds as turn signals. KP Technologies makes a module for our cars, its made by special order only. I contact them last year to have one made and they said they could do it in a few weeks.

that does look nice, however he doesn't have the circles like I do so it is a little different, if i do it should I make both circles blink for my blinker? the only problem with that is then if i'm braking while i have my turn signal on then I won't have brake lights on that side of the car which I guess is ok, just what is everyone's thoughts?

When you brake with the blinker on, the side with the blinker on would actually continue to blink while the opposite side would stay solid. A few vehicles have setups like this with combined brake/blinker indicators

As far as staying legal, you still need to account for the small bulb on the side and visible rear red reflectors as well.

Basically....to do what you want to do is going to require some level of "illegality"

The fact that OCG35s ride has 03-04 tails isn't really relevant. The KP module he uses to make his line of leds blink, in your case the circle of leds, would be the exact same I believe.

Yes just like that, it's just mine aren't coupe lights so I'm wondering what peoples thoughts are on how the upper blinker light would look as a running light. As for the side blinker light i will disconnect it because if a cop sees it blinking under the black paint, that's when i'll get the ticket. So you described it perfect "illegality"
