Thumbs up Taillight Mod in the works!

* moderators, please keep this here as it pertains solely to sedans and I don’t think it will reach interested parties in the lighting section – thanks *

Okay guys… some of you know the mod I’m trying to do for my taillights (post # 118 https://g35driver.com/forums/showthr...llight+eyelids)

Basically the idea is to make the led brake lights/running lights blink. This will eliminate the top OEM turn signals allowing for a custom, unique (and IMO better) looking taillight. Bluebatmobile has eyelid overlays, but they leave a sliver of the OEM turn signal (see it here: https://g35driver.com/forums/picture-share/150923-new-pics-w-blue-bat-tail-signals.html)

This is a decent option, but not optimal IMO… I have been working with 3 different electrical shops to make this happen and it’s not nearly as simply as you might think (I guess that’s why it hasn’t been done yet)… Kevin @ KPTechnologies has taken on the challenge and seems relatively confident he can make it happen… Hopefully sometime next week a prototype will be tested on my car.

The question is; would anyone else be interested in this? I believe KPTechnologies plans to offer a group buy (but I need it sooner, due to other paint projects coming up)… but I thought I’d let my sedan brethren know what’s in the works in case it’s something anyone else might want.

Once this is complete I’m certain Andy aka bluebatmobile will be willing to make overlays the cover the entire OEM turn signal – or it can be painted body color (as I intend to do).

I will post pics and vids once it’s ready.

* See post #72 for successful module in action

* See post #145 for pics of final version

OCG, sign me up as 'interested'. Is this going to be a plug and play module for the tail lamps, or with this require lots of chopping and splicing?

I'm interested as well for my '03.5 tails. If successful in the testing stage, would this mod also work for the '05-'06 tails?

It should since the wiring is the same.

I would bet it will require some minor wiring changes.

Mike I got your message last night. We were out with some friends at dinner and I had to promise the wife there would be no car stuff yesterday.

I am interested but all my money is tied up with my motor build and the clutch I need to buy so I can't get into anything else right now. If you don't get enough people for the GB I do want this later and will work something out with you and Kevin.

im having a hard time visualing how the top would look with body color. Will someone photoshop 2 versions? 1 with 05-06 tails and 1 with 03-04 tails? I have both.

It's a little reminiscent, a throw back even, of the old legendary Toyota Corolla.

Note the amber turn signals in this one. He must have the JDM ones.

YES! Exactly... that's what it will be. I didn't describe it that way because I wasn’t sure anyone really knew how the FX tails are. But you got it!

plug & play brotha! That's why I'm excited about KP Technologies doing it - he likes making stuff simple with modules... the others I've been working with are all drawing schematics do splicer/dicer wiring & **** and they can’t get it to work... I wish I had worked with Kevin sooner on this.
