G35 03 radio goes silent after one minute, comes back eventually.

My girlfriend's Infinity G35 radio has the strangest problem. It's driving us nuts. The radio is stock, no aftermarket parts. She has a wireless XM FM transmitter but that shouldn't make a difference.

Problem: When the car is started the radio would work for about a minute then go silent for five minutes then come back and stay on until the car is off.

I ran some tests and found that :
- It happens every time I let the car sit for some time, like an hour, then start it.
- It happens regardless of whether the car is moving or parked
- FM and AM are silent
- 'silent' means total silence on all channels, not even static
- CD player works fine
- turning the car off and back on does NOT fix the problem, the radio will remain silent for N minutes after the car is started up again (weird)

I am out of ideas, hoping that the experts here will give me some pointers.

Thanks!

The radio is a common problem on our cars. Your options are to replace it or find an aftermarket one. I haven't heard of anyone who has tried to "fix" it.

Ive heard of someone fixing it, but they paid $250ish, imo not worth it because in the end you have the OEM deck still.
Replacing it with a quality aftermarket unit is the best bet.
I picked up a DD for $200 used and have had no problems since. I have a nice screen for my daughter to watch movies on and it takes care of all my audio needs. not to mention excellent surround sound.

Hit the radio on the left side, should get it going again.

My car is doing the exact same thing, lasts about 30 secs to a 1 minute. Started last summer. I asked the dealer about it and they said to replace the whole radio. He also intimated that it wasn't worth it. Very frustrating.

Yep, I'm a girl and I know he thought he was doing me a favor by telling me that. Does anyone know whether you have to replace the nav to replace the radio?

He's not kidding, this will work sometimes. Usually isn't a long term fix though.
