anyone running 10w30 now/was

Normally I opt for 5w30 in w/e flavor is on sale that day. I wasn't looking and i grabbed mobil 10w30 this time around.

I have been thinking the car has been developing a idle pulley failure due to engine noise. But i used 10w30 today and on start up it was a lot quieter. The noise isn't 100% gone but its a lot quieter. I might be making stuff up or maybe there was other factors but i think i'll be using 10w30 from now on.

well colder temp its thicker so "starting up quicker" does not make any sense at all...

I think the OP meant quieter but yes if it was quicker with the cold temps that would be odd

never mentioned about quicker.... QUIETER ( its not a word but w/e)

I've been having a noise, looking around the board most likely its a bearing/idler pulley somewhere. I haven't had enough time to remove the belt and spin each on its own yet. So I've just lived with it. Since i bought the car at 30k I've been using dino 5w30 regardless of temp/conditions and etc. Now running 10w30 it seems the noise i thought was related to the pulley/bearing has been a lot less. Been switching up GTX/mobil 5000 5w30 and now running mobil 5000 10w30.

I've only heard of rare magical cases where noise has been less. I know most guys on here run all different grades/weight oils for w/e reason they have and the motor has accepted it. Just wanted to state what i noticed in my last oil change.

it doesn't start up quicker at all.

I used 0-30/40 in my 3.5 altima for over 50k miles. you'll be fine. In Canada it's more needed, I'm sure you guys see temps way below 0F. I did it only because I used German Castrol (0w30) and Mobil 0w40, which were highly lauded by the oil guys at BITOG.

The first number (usually a 0, 5, or 10) has to do with pump-ability when cold. Technically, the thinner the better but I found the DEs start a little better with just 5w and a good filter (OEM, Mobil).
