I have a OEM G35sedan nissan branded trunk spoiler in the mail But now the question is where do I install it...Dealership quoted me $425, then a bodyshop quoted me $300 and another one said about $200ish...but then 1 more said $60-100 but they installed my buddys spoiler a little crooked, should I just DIY this? I'm a little iffy on drilling holes in my trunk but if it saves me 400 bucks i might have to do it, anyone know a place in norcal that will install for $100-$150? thats really what im looking to spend for the install...let me know, thanks

do it urself..just set a couple of hours aside so u dont rush and just take ur time and double check all of ur marks before drilling

You can do this yourself. It comes with instructions and templates that you tape down to reference where you drill the holes. Should be an easy way to save a bunch of $$$.

But since you already have it, just DIY to save you some $$$. But take your time.

 

uh not sure what drill bits..prob one for drilling into metal since the trunk is metal..and ya touch up paint on the hole couldnt hurt..u can never over do it..i have an oem dealer add on spoiler and u can see the screws when u open the trunk..they started gettin a little loose from my sub so i put lock tight on each screw so it doesnt rattle loose..not the permanent stuff though..i think permanent is red and the temp stuff is blue...i would do that also

 

I'm looking at center punches 2, i remember when i saw a bodyshop install a spoiler they used a center punch to start the hole off.

 

Regular drill bits will be fine, just use SLOW rpm and it won't burn up your bit. Be patient and don't push down too hard, cause once it pokes through, you don't want the drill to slam down on your trunk lid and dent it. If you have touch up paint, that would be preferred, but if not, some spray paint sprayed into the cap and use a little artist paint brush (if you have one) or q-tip to dab and brush on to cover the exposed metal. I would also opt for loctite on the nuts.

i put my oem spoiler on myself. . .first time i did anything like that. please make SURE you buy a unibit!! a regular drill bit will skate on the surface. also with a unibit you can drill with the center of the hole exactly on the point you marked.

 

^Good call! I bought a set of those and let them sit for a while. Then, I started using them and now that's just about all I use. Same principles apply though. If you're drilling metal, slow RPM's.

 

any non-permanent way he can attach this in case he changes his mind? I'm not a fan of spoilers myself.

 

The spoiler has two bolts molded into it (sticking out downward) that would be secured w/ nuts on the underside of the trunk lid, so drilling two holes is a necessity.
