Gas Needle

Started the car yesterday, the tank is full, needle whizzes, as usual, to the F line, maybe too enthusiastically, and goes all the way around. Now when I start the car, it's the wrong side of the pin below the E line, and cant show me how much gas I have. Someone, help me put an end to this insanity.

Thanks, Al.

OK, I found a fix. I used a small length of 360 micron diameter fused silica (used for mass spectrometry), and threaded it through the small gap between the odo reset button and the console cover. I just played around until I manipulated the fuel gauge needle to the correct position. Much better now.

Thats pretty crazy man. So it basically shot through full all the way to the other side of empty? Did you wind it back down counter clockwise, or "help" it over the empty pin? Good to know that this could happen but it's also fixable. And for those of us who don't own a mass spectroscope, would something like a pin have worked?

Yep, shot all the way around, essentially a 360deg (minus the size of the pin) circle counter clockwise. I turned it clockwise using the silica, about 360deg back the other way, and it works per usual. There is actually about 4" between the odo reset and the gauge, so it's a little difficult, I used fused silica as it retains considerable strength while being very small OD, small enough to fit the gap (between the odo reset and the console 'glass'). I should have taken photos, however, as a relative newb to the tech savvy world of G35, I spaced it, and reached for a beer instead of a camera. If anyone has questions, let me know and I'll talk through. Cheers, Al.

mine has done that a couple times.. I had to use a small tiny flat head screw driver and take the lower part of the dash off and push it over the pin!!
