Trunk lock mechanism not working (about to shoot car)

2004 sedan

Problem: Trunk lock not working

What I've done so far is to check it with both key fobs and the switch next to the steering wheel, but still not working. The switch in the glove compartment is in the ON position.

The voltmeter registers zero current going to lock when it's set off from the fobs or internal switch. There is no fuse connected directly to the lock, that I know of.

I looked at the wiring and they are not crimped in any way.

Does anyone have any ideas/suggestions? I thought of a bad wiring harness, but where is that located and how would I go about checking it?

HEEEEEEELLLLLLP!

Have you checked all the fuses even though they don't directly specify trunk release?

If the connector on the back of the SWITCH in the glove box is disconnected then it will not open. Take off the glove box and ensure that that plug is fully engaged.

This wouldn't happen if you had a doggy door...just sayin'...

Kidding, good luck finding that gremlin, it has to be maddeningly frustrating!

The wires are probably frayed usually in and around the area where it comes from the car into the trunk lid. It is a common problem. I've had to fix mine a few times.

^^^ Is the only way to see this is to cut open the entire wiring sheath. I made a small incision and saw nothing--- will I need to tear into the entire thing like you did?

I'm learning that the more engineered/more electronic components there are, the greater the likelihood of something breaking/not working. Aaaaaaaaaaaaaaaarrrrrrrrrrrghhhhhhhh

All fuses checked and working fine. Haven't checked behind glove box though. Good idea, thanx!

Did you or someone replace the cabin filter recently?
Lower the glove box and check the connector at the switch

I've had this happen to me once, my car just kinda panicked and locked me out...I took the negative terminal off the battery and waited about 10 minutes and reconnected it. Shazam! Trunk was accepting passengers again!

The second time it panicked it killed every electrical component in the car except the engine, same process solved it.
