Thinking of trading down my '07 G35X for '06
Thinking of trading down my '07 G35X for '06
In early February, "I flipped and wrecked my '06 G35X". That's the thread you can find on here. I was short for time driving a rental from the insurance company and was having trouble finding another '06 with decent mileage and a color I wanted. I ended up buying a blue slate '07 G35X. I kicked in $5,000 more to get the '07 than I would have if I was able to find an '06. So here we are, 6 weeks into it and I still miss my '06 a LOT. I know, say I'm crazy, My '07 has the premium package with Nav and Bose. BUT the steering wheel is way too different, my hands get fatigued with the little bumped out areas that my thumb rests on, the red white and bluish dash light colors I'm not crazy about, and I cannot see my blinkers when they are on. I also cannot see my MPH gauge because the tilt of the wheel, in order to be comfortable in my hands, has to be lower than what is required to see the gauges, so the steering wheel blocks out the blinker and MPH gauge. I can never see how fast I'm going and if my stereo is on a tad high I can't hear if the blinker clicked off because I can't SEE it blinking on the dash. I am considering trading down to a 2006 G35X even though I'm going to lose about $4,000 to do it. I found an '06 with the same mileage my '06 had, gray (mine was liquid platinum silver) and it's in good shape. Call me crazy but I may do the swap. Think I'm crazy?

Girl go with your heart. If you are really happier with the 06 dump the 07 and don't look back. Every day you drive the 07 you'll be beating yourself up thinking you would be happier with the 06 and IMHO that's no way to live.
Do what makes you happy and you'll enjoy your life a lot more.

I like the exterior of the '03-'06, on the other hand the interior of the '07 and later is much nicer. I have an '03 with 60K miles if you want to trade.

How many miles on your '07? Is it paid off? Do you have title? I'm in Boston too
I would only go with a 2005 or 2006 with UNDER 60K miles. Prefer a black interior that's not full of squeaks and rattles like mine was at times, and exterior must be silver, gray or black or maybe dark blue. Mustang, my 07 has 48K miles and is mint. What I want is for someone to trade a MINT '06 with me (or '05) with under 60K miles and have all service records and give me a bank check for an agreed upon amount that would be fair so I don't lose my shirt which is what I will do if I go through a dealer. I paid $6,000 more for the '07 than what I got from the wreck of my '06 (including sales tax). I'm not looking to do a "break even swap" deal. I'm looking to get some money back on the swap. I own the '07 outright because I paid cash so I have the title. It had two owners before me (both leases, clean car fax). I paid cash, ready to go anytime someone wants to do a deal. I also had a remote starter put in it which is killer in the cold weather. It's mint. I want to do this deal soon because the dealer is holding that '06 for me which I will lose my shirt on if I do the swap, but I don't want to keep letting time tick by as my car is racking up mileage each day and finding an '06 with not too high miles in mint shape is really tough too as each week passes. If anyone's interested I'm at (617) 678-2461 or mary.dyer@fmr.com.

Mary - if time is of the essence, most likely you're either going to get hit in the pocketbook or take a 06 sedan that isn't exactly the way you'd like it to be. It's going to be hard to avoid that situation. In buying or selling a car, the ideal situation would be to separate the transactions to minimize monetary losses. You probably already know that. There's no way you can sell the 07 first and get the 06 after?
Good luck getting a nice, well-cared for 2006 back to enjoy. Whoever pries my babied 2006 sedan from my cold, dead fingers is going to be very lucky indeed. I picked mine over the 07/08s when I was looking and I haven't regretted it since. Other than those projector headlights (which can be added to the first gens) and minor things here and there, the 2006 sedan has always been superior in my eyes - especially exterior-wise.
So basically in a roundabout way - no, you're not crazy

S854,
I live alone so I have no one I can borrow a car from. If I sold my '07 I'd be without wheels. I'd be paying for a rental until God knows how long it takes to find an '06. I have no other alternative. Believe me I wish it were possible.
