Recommendations for home equipment?
Without metric you will be pretty much ***'ed out working on any car. (Unless you have a "classic" pre '85 car from one of the Detroit Three sitting in your garage.)
If you are just doing oil changes, ramps for the front wheels are all you need and they are much easier than setting up jack stands.
YOU NEED WHEEL CHOCKS EITHER WAY
Also, buy quality hand tools the first time. Cheap sockets and wrenches will break or strip bolts. I find Craftsmen is good quality for the price.
Torque wrenches are most accurate in the middle of their range. I believe our bolts should be torqued to 85 or 90, so a 100 ft lb wrench would be okay but not ideal. I have a 5-80 ft lb and will be buying a 50-150ft lb or similar soon.
I also use a classic fumoto valve. The oil drains slower (about 10 minutes total), but it is so easy and clean. Check out their website.
