Oil Change @3000, 4500 now, what should I do???
I changed my G35 oil at the dealership at the end of August, and I got a notice stating my 7500 maintenance is up, only problem is, I only have 4500 miles. What should I do? I don't drive the car a heck of alot, as I work about 3-4 miles from my house. My girlfriend thinks I need to change the oil as its based on the time not the mileage, I've always thought that it should be the 3000 miles, even if it takes longer to get to them. I got into this discussion with the gf and she insists it should be every 3 months regardless of mileage. I'm only putting on about 500 miles a month, not 1000; Thus I don't know what I should do. She thinks I should go in, get my oil changed, and NOT do the 7500 service stuff until I get to 7500.Opinions please??

I drive about 1000 miles a month (sometimes less) and I also get the service reminder letter from the dealer. I go in for service based on the mileage, not the time lapse. I agree with you, not your girlfriend. If it's 4 months or so instead of 3; it's no big deal.

"The oil and oil filter change intervals for your
engine are based on the use of the specified
quality oils and filters. Oil and filter other than
the specified quality, or oil and filter change
intervals longer than recommended could reduce
engine life. Damage to engines caused
by improper maintenance or use of incorrect
oil and filter quality and/or viscosity is not
covered by the new INFINITI vehicle warranties."
Reading this from the manual, I would say take your car in.

g4me, I think I'm just gonna bring in some synthetic and have em switch to synthetic (4500 is decent mileage to switch in my opinion) for Miami Weather (always hot) is it 10W30 or 10W40 Mobil1?

Just make sure what ever you do, don't wait beyond 180 days to change your oil..........that is clearly a violation of warranty terms assumming you can prove you are not driving in any [once in the period] SEVERE situations which require 3,750 miles or 90 days.
It is a good idea to take the car in every 90 days to get the oil changed and a look over by techs to catch problems, do secret warranty parts replacements, fix all the wonderful new car bugs.

Yeah, I agree with you, I am going to get it changed even if its only been 1500. I bought a case of Mobil1 10W-30 for $17 at Pepboys using this coupon for buy 3 get 3 free from a calendar. Was a great deal imo!
