Suspension Help for 2003.0 Sedan

Alright, so I've done as much searching as I can possibly bear, but haven't come up with completely what I'm trying to find out. A thousand apologies if I missed something while searching...

Anyway, I have an '03.0 IP sedan and I'm trying to just get a little lowering action up in this, and am leaning toward 350Z springs all around (IMO the G/Z combo makes the front fender/wheel gap look larger than the back...is this just me??). I DON'T have the sport suspension, so I have to replace my shocks/struts. Should I get the full 350Z suspension, or would G coupe shocks/struts work and still give me a 1" drop?

The 350Z springs I'm looking at are the revised ones, so does that effect what year shocks/struts I get to match them, or does it not matter?

Once again, sorry if I missed something when searching. If someone provides a link to answer my question, I'll delete the topic. I don't mean to cause any face palmeage...

You can get either, they will both work. I went with the 350z shocks/struts when I had the Z/C set-up. I believe that the shock bodies are the same, but the shaft on the Z shock is a little shorter. Other than that I havent seen anything refering to the valving being any different between the two.

you should just get the z spring/strut already mounted together it will save you alot of time with installation! you take off the old ones and it will literally take you 5 minutes to install the z ones since theyre shorter they'll fit in like a glove and your car will handle way better

^He's right (and an excellent 1st post might I add)

Also, your best bet is to match the shocks to the springs.

You should be aware though, the Z/coupe drop is more even front to back than the full Z setup.
For reference sake, I have full revised Z suspension, so if you look at any pics of my car lowered, either with the new wheels, or the old ones, that's the drop you're looking at. (And as an added bonus, also an 03.0 IP w00t!)

IIRC Wayne (SwivelHips) has Z fronts with coupe rears.
One thing to be aware of though, if you get coupe springs off a coupe with the sport package (oem 19s) that's 05 or newer, you're getting rear Z springs, so trying to do a Z/Coupe setup with those makes no sense.
A proper Z/Coupe is done with rear springs from either an early coupe, or a newer non-sport coupe.

so you have the full z? is it really that much of a difference in looks w/ the coupe rear ones??

^Judge for yourself, there are tons of pics of my car around (most of them are in the link on my sig)
Hopefully someone around here has a lot of pics of Z/C setup for you to compare.

That's what I have, but then I've never professed to mke much sense, LOL! It does, however, provide near-exact fender height on all four corners. Those sport springs, however, will rip up your non-sport shocks. Just get the sport shock with the springs and you'll be okay. Might be better off to go non-sport coupe, as Ashley aka Mr Sensible says.

Here's how it sits:

^You sure about the year/pkg of your rear springs? I thought we had this discussion and yours were non-sport or something
Were they red-red-purple?

Thanks for all the input guys, it's greatly appreciated! I think I'll just wait and try to find a complete revised 350Z suspension...shocks/struts and springs all assembled for sale based off of what Flopster said about being an easier installation..

Speaking of the installation..installing the shocks/springs/struts..would it be a relatively easy one I could do by myself, opposed to getting a shop to do it?

I'm sure man, my Rays came from the same car.

Apollo, and extra set of experienced hands is pretty much a must, I dunno if I'd tackle it solo.

^Weird.

Oh and Apollo, I managed by myself... I've helped a guy swap struts on his Z31 before, but it was the entire unit, whereas with mine, I had to compress the springs and load the struts.

It's not that bad of a job really. But spring tension is a potentially deadly force.
I work with highly tensioned springs almost every day, so I'm kinda used to it... if you've never done it before, it wouldn't hurt to have someone else that has handy.
Perhaps network and see if anyone in your area hosts 'tech days'
I know a couple guys in FL do this at their house.

If you know what you're doing replacing the suspension is easily a one man job. I installed my coilovers myself in about 4 hours and that was with my dumb azz installing one of the fronts backwards and having to remove it and flip it around.

However, I've redone my suspension 3 times so I now know a few tricks to make the install go smoothly. I would recommend what Ashley said above about Tech Day or find someone who's knowledgeable to help you. I can't tell you how satisfying it is to do stuff like this yourself. Not only do you save a lot of money, but you'll gain invaluable knowledge of how the car works and develop a sense of pride that will make you grin from ear to ear. I was on the phone with my dad a couple of weeks ago stuck in rush hour traffic and a guy in a Pathfinder was waving at me to roll down my window. He asked me who did my suspension and I told him I did. Dad was amazed that a complete stranger would go through the trouble to ask that, and it put a smile on my face that lasted all day.
