Intelligent Key

Can the intelligent key feature be added to a model that was not equipped from the factory? - thanks

Re: Intelligent Key

yes with enough money, but i dont think it would be worth it...this system includes radio receivers/transmitters all over the car, not to mention ignition and alarm system mods.

Re: Intelligent Key

I have a 05 and the intelligent key is really a great feature. I must admit that I was a little skeptical if I would like it but it is really an amazing feature. I really appreciate the key and miss it when I drive our other vehicle, which does not have the feature. You get use to it very fast.

I don’t think it would be practical to add the feature to an older car. There would be some major changes to the steering column and all the electronics. You would also need a modification to your door and truck. Both the driver’s door and trunk have a push button to unlock. There are too many mods to upgrade the older vehicles.

Whenever you purchase in the future, I would recommend you get the feature.

Re: Intelligent Key

I'm still waiting for my car to arrive.

In the real world, how does the Intelligent Key work?
Do you basically never take the key out of your pocket now?

The only time I can think that I would want to pull the key out is if it is raining and I want to get in the car quick without having to press the little button. In that case I would unlock the car from a distance with the remote. (there is still a remote right?)

Also wondering if it is best to remove the battery from an unused Intelligent Key for storage to prevent the battery from draining too quickly.

And, I also heard that there were some issues if the car battery drained completely but not sure what the problem is.

Re: Intelligent Key

We have the Infiniti Intelligent Key system in our '03 FX35. It's my wife's fav feature!! ;-) It works just like you think; we never have to pull our keyfob out of our pockets (or my wife's purse...she loves not having to dig through her purse ;-). Yes, the radio frequency keyfob does have the usual unlock, lock, and panic alarm buttons if you need them (and a hidden emergency key as well). No, you shouldn't have to worry about the tiny battery draining; it's like any other keyfob remote battery and should last you a very long time.

I wish I had the Intelligent Key feature in my 04.5 G35...it's true you get used to its convenience very quickly. Enjoy it!!!

Re: Intelligent Key

More info on the 'Intelligent Key' (for the M) found here:

Infiniti's Intelligent Key--- then click on 'Outsmarts the Road'.

I love this feature and can't wait to get it on a new M.

Re: Intelligent Key

Does the car lock itself too or do you need to press the little button on the door?

Re: Intelligent Key

Good question LD, I don't know. I suspect that you have to press the lock button on the door or the keyfob itself.

Someone with the I-key have the answer?

Re: Intelligent Key

Press the button on the door with the RF keyfob transmitter in your pocket and it will lock & unlock the doors. Get in the car and just turn the ignition (no key) to start the car and you cannot lock your keys inside your car...it won't let you.

Re: Intelligent Key

Does the Intelligent Key link to the driver seat memory?
Does it link to the steering wheel adjustments?

Re: Intelligent Key

I don't think it does in the G, but it does in the new M. Would be nice if it did tho.

Re: Intelligent Key

I think so. I drove a 05 yesterday, and the steering wheels and the seats moved back to the originoal position by the time I turned off the car. As I remember, you can store those sitting position by using the buttons on the right left side of the seats.

(not sure tho, didnt pay attention on that)

And yes, I love the intelligent key. But I just cant afford to pay 39K for the 05 sedan which I want.

To be honest, that key is really an "option". I mean you can live without it. But, of cause, that thing is cool. Real cool.

Re: Intelligent Key

Looking at the Infiniti site it is my understanding that the 05 6MT will not have the smart key available, even as an option. What is up with that? I think it is a great feature and am throughly dissapointed that you can not have it on the MT. Please tell my I am wrong or explain why they would do this. TIA.

Re: Intelligent Key

A dealer told me, the 05' Sedan 6MT's wouldn't be available w/ the Intelligent Key..

Has this been confirmed?
