20"or 18"

I'm contemplating of whether i should buy 20" or 18" rims for my 2007 G35 sedan. What i'm worried about getting 20" rims is that it will take away the smooth integrity of the ride because the suspension was not made for the car. 18" seems rather perfect for the car but i seen car G35's with 20" or bigger and seemed perfect fit, but again the comfort of the ride is the big question. Is there anybody out there that has 20" wheels that can give me their opinion of whether its perfect fit with no problems on the comfort of the ride? Thanks!

I have had 18's, 19's and 20's.
The ride difference is very minimal between them.
The 19's and 20's feel the same, I do not notice any difference.
The 18's were a little smoother riding, but that could also be in part to the soft tire compound (snow tires).
The car came with 235/35/19's which I changed to 225/40/19F and 255/35/19R.
I then got show tires in the size 235/45/18 front and rear. The ride was a little smoother, but minimally.
I then went back to 19's with 245/35/19 front and 275/35/19 Rear. I dont really recall noticing any difference.
I am currently on 20's 245/35/20f and 255/35/20R and noticed no difference from the 19s.
Sidewall height ranged between 3.37" 3.78" for both the 19's and 20's and the sidewall height on the 18's only increased to 4.16".

Hope that helps a little.

If you don't need a lift kit your wheels aren't big enough, also make sure they extend at least a half inch beyond the fender...oh wait maybe I'm on the wrong forum.hahaha
Thanks for your response 4D05G. That is one of the more informative responses to that ? That I have seen.

I bought the coupe 18's and love them. I was too concerned with the ride quality on 20's. I could tell the difference going from the stock 17's to the 18's. I have them on Michelin A/S plus tires.

You're welcome.
I think that you will notice a bigger difference going from 17"-18" than you would going from 18" - 20" because of the sidewall flex.
Another factor to consider is the tire style and design. It seems that people go from an all-season tire (17-18") to a high performance Summer only tire in 19-20" sizes. Not all, but a large variety of those tires are high perfmance summer tires.

I would say if you had the opportunity to borrow a friends set of wheels in 18-20" diameter do that so you can see how they feel.
Another thing to factor in is your suspension. Picking the right spring and shock or coilover set-up will make a difference in ride Quality.

IMO, 20s ride like **** and often look too big unless they have step lips.

18s or 19s only.

I have had 19's and 20's. The ride difference between 19's and 20's is not much different, and if I had a 2nd gen I would probably go 20's.

I have 20s.....TIRES ACTUALLY MATTER!!!! I had some 18's 1st set coupes on 40 profile was okay bouncy but smooth at times. Then 18's some brand wheels on 45 profile I can say BUMPS were toys and I could drive like a 16 year old ride was a little stiffer but tires were cheap. Now I have staggered 20's was afraid of bad ride but to my surprise on some worn on springs and struts rides like a ... a.... BMW! No lie maybe the weight slowed me down some idk but I have some expensive tires brand new for once and man everyone noticed the difference. Ride is stiff but smooth and almost no bounce. Its takes a bump and smooths out sweetly. I LIKE MY 20's the look small with a deep lip and can fit with with no adjustments to springs and fenders!!! I say go big.
