Possible clutch pedal engagement/feel/sticking solution.
Possible clutch pedal engagement/feel/sticking solution.
Recently I had the classic clutch pedal sticking issue and I changed out the fluid, bled the line etc. What I found interesting was the behavior of the slave cylinder while bleeding the line. On every other vehicle I have had with a hydraulic clutch you bleed the line just like the brakes; open the bleeder, stick a piece of hose in some clean fuild and pump/hold until you don't see any bubbles. Not the case with the G35. Open the line, pump the clutch, it sticks to the floor. Pull the clutch back up and pump again...the pedal sticks to the floor and no fluid comes out. I don't know if it is the master cylinder or the slave but there is a pressure or backflow valve somewhere that is restricting the flow of fluid. I think it's in the slave, like some BMWs have restrictors in the slave to help prevent total clutch dumping burnouts. I have also read about this possible restriction in another members post on this forum. I feel the same restrictor or valve is what also makes the G35 clutch action abnormal, as in all the clutch takeup is at the top of the pedal range, short range of engagement, etc. As a recent G35 sedan owner since November I have gotten used to it but I can't help shake the feeling I could make it better. I am going to get an aftermarket slave cylinder and make it work for my transmission. There are a couple out there and I am sure I could get one to mount up and work properly. The aftermarket slave will just be a straight up push-type hydraulic cylinder with no internal restrictors or valves and I believe that this will help clutch feel and engagement. I will update when I get this project underway.
3. Get under yur car and have yur helper pump the clutch pedal 5x then hold it to the floor. Open the bleeder valve and a spurt of fluid will come out and travel down the tube.
4. Close the bleeder valve then have yur helper release the clutch pedal and wait 5 seconds.
5. Have yur helper pump 5x again then hold clutch while u open bleeder valve again.
