Engine ticking/clicking and need help. Youtube video of noise included

just picked up a 03 G35 sedan from a small lot. 59000 mile, clean and pretty much regular daily driving wear. The engine has a clicking or ticking knock noise coming from the drivers side of the engine or so it seems. One of my friends said it is possibly lifters, others said bent valve. The mechanic at the lot said all it needed was a tune up, oil and spark plug change and it would go away....It hasnt after 700 miles. the car still has their warranty so im getting it fixed through them. Here is a Youtube video of the noise.....thanks for your help!!!!

this is the actual car and noise. not some random video. thank you for your help!!!!!!!!

Is the car burning any oil from what you can tell. Do you have service records from infiniti to see what all has been done and if oil change was done at 3000 miles regularly. When did the noise start. Was it making the noise when you purchased it or after. It sounds like a timing chain guide and the chain is hitting it. Can you get a stethoscope and see if it is coming from the top of the engine or bottom.

Also see if you can find any sludge through the oil fill hole or maybe drop the oil pan to see sludge (only if you can do it your self don't waste money yet). Try German Castrol from Autozone syntec 0w30. It will say on the back that it is MADE IN GERMANY. Don't go in asking for German castrol they will look at you weird. If the noise goes down in volume then it is internal to the engine and not the chain or guide. Even though it is 0w30 it is a very thick oil like almost 40 weight.

What warranty do you have on it since powetrain is 6yr/70k if i am not mistaken. If you have to spend money then just drop a new motor in it instead of a rebuild. If it is just the chain, sprockets or guides then just get that repaired. This sounds like it will cost some $$$$ if you have no warranty.

Use Wix, Puralotor, Napa, Mobil 1, K&N, or OEM for Filters. You can use the M45 oil filter which is slightly larger

Thanks for the prompt response. Yes the noise was there when i purchased the vehicle. I trusted the mechanic when he said the noise would go away. Unfortunately the top half of the engine has been taken off but the heads are still in place. the car drove fine but the noise was annoying. The warranty they gave me is 3month/3000miles. I have no clue how often the car was serviced. i will keep you updated to see how it goes. thanks again.

Here is a video of my car shortly after I got it, I did not know what this noise was, belt just needed to be tightend but for comparison record a video with your camera the same place mine was. But as you can plainly hear, the noise that's in your car is not happening to mine

Dealer will try to brush you off, get them to fix it.

You better do your best and get a new motor or get that fixed and I mean it. I had a dealer very similar try the same thing and claimed after oil change it will go away. After i called him out on it he claimed it needed a tuneup and at that time I demanded my deposit and left that car on the lot. He dropped the price $1500 and sold the car to some one. He offered me a 3m/3000 warranty free and a bump to 6month to close the deal but still I walked.

I would do your best to get a new/used motor or get the work done to where there is no noise what so ever. You have automatic and that should not have Oil consumption issues or any sort of noise at 60k. Call the local infiniti with the vin and have them tell you what services have been done to it and what should be done. Try to find out if oil changes were done regularly. I have a feeling extended warranty or the dealer will weasel out of this. Never trust any dealer or mechanic who is trying to sell you a car. All they are interested in is putting food on the table for their kids not your ENGINE

Thanks again. Actually the dealer is trying to fix it. Said they want me satisfied and happy. The thing is that the noise sounds like its coming from the top, back area drivers side of the engine. I hope its just the belt. im gunna look at it tomorrow. thanks again.

Hard to diagnose from a video but it does sound a lot like the issue Paulito-G is having https://g35driver.com/forums/engine-...itic-help.html
